Table of Contents
Currently the College of Engineering, Mathematics, and Science (EMS) serves more than 2,100 majors. UWP is expecting continued growth in the College of EMS as student enrollment at UWP increases to 8,000 students.
New Engineering Building
- Construction began in May 2007. Ribbon cutting took place December 2008 and classes began January 2009.
- The new building is located at the northwest corner of Longhorn Drive and Southwest Road near Southwest Hall.
- The new engineering hall houses electrical engineering, physics, engineering physics, and general engineering labs
- The building is 108,500,500 square-feet comprised of 15 classrooms including a distance learning classroom, 17 laboratories, 3 combination classroom/labs, 6 computer labs, student project space, and faculty and staff offices.
Ottensman Hall (Current Engineering Building)
- Constructed in the mid-1960s. Served 680 majors at that time.
- Ottensman Hall has been expanded over the years. Currently it is 100,000 square feet.
- As of January 2009 Ottensman Hall houses Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Chemistry.
- UWP is now gearing up for a major renovation of Ottensman Hall, which is expected to be completed prior to our sesquicentennial celebration in 2016.
Over the next decade, it is expected that $100 million of new projects and renovations will occur on campus as UW-Platteville reaches its 150-year anniversary in 2016. The new engineering hall is the cornerstone of this plan because it will provide adequate space for new students and new teaching opportunities. Now that the new engineering hall is complete, planning for the renovation of Ottensman Hall will begin.
