UW-Platteville is embarking on a two-phase addition and renovation project for Williams Fieldhouse and the Pioneer Activity Center. This will provide needed facilities for our growing student body, faculty and staff, the community and the region.

In addition, a number of important improvements are already complete or underway at Williams Fieldhouse. These are:

Completed:

• Bo Ryan Court – court officially named after Coach Ryan - January 2007
• New sound system - January 2008
• New backboards - spring 2008
• New scoreboards and shot clock in gym – June 2008
• New three-point line – June 2008

To Be Completed:

• Lighting for the Outdoor Track – fall 2008
• New bleachers – still negotiating with the State

Phase I Details

The first phase of the addition and renovation was enumerated by the State of Wisconsin in 2007-09. Architects are now designing this with construction planned for 2009-10.

• The estimated total cost is $4.1 million
• Over $450,000 in pledges have been received by UW-Platteville Foundation in support

Students approved the project and will pay fees each semester to support the addition and renovation. Construction is expected to begin in Spring 2009 and the Phase 1 addition will be completed in Summer 2010.*per 3/08 timeline

Phase 1 will include:

• 19,200 sq ft Addition to the Pioneer Activity Center
  • Lower level:
    • weight room with free weights & resistance equipment (with stairway to cardio area)
    • video room
    • outdoor sports office, check-out, & storage area
  • Upper Level:
    • cardio equipment area (with stairway to weight room)
    • multipurpose exercise rooms
    • fitness lab auxiliary office
    • restrooms
  • Mezzanine Level:
    • fitness lab

• Renovated Areas:
  • Weight and cardio room converted to wrestling practice gym
  • Wrestling room converted to office space
  • 1 racquetball court will become entry way to new addition

Phase II Details:

Phase 2 will complete the addition and renovation of the Pioneer Activity Center. The conceptual design for this phase, focusing on an aquatic center and auxiliary gym, was completed with the planning for Phase 1.

The campus has requested approval from the state as part of the 2009-11 capital budget. The estimated cost is $9.5-10.5 million

• Students have approved to increase fees to financially support Phase II with $4.5 million.
• Remaining $5-5.5 million to be raised privately by UW-Platteville Foundation

The earliest time construction will begin is in summer 2010, completion in fall 2011. The timing for construction of Phase 2 is dependent on fundraising. With $5 to $5.5 million in gifts needed, construction can only begin when these funds have been raised.
