What are you most excited about starting or experiencing at UW-Platteville?
I have lived in the same suburban community all of my life. I love my neighbors that I see often and I love my friends that I have gone to school with for the last 12 years. I am excited about breaking out of my secure environment and venturing into a college experience.
My goal for college is to get an education in what I love to do, which deals with the environment. I also hope to join clubs with students that have the same interests that I do. Also I hope to join intramural sports to meet friends, which is always exciting.
Platteville is a great school I see myself branching off from my home to attend and start my like as young, confident adult. Platteville is a beautiful area of Wisconsin. It is very different from my home in Milwaukee, near lake Michigan. Graduating from Platteville is an exciting goal I plan to achieve.
What interests and/or hobbies do you have?
When I am not reading or doing school projects, I enjoy painting and drawing. I have a number of animal prints that I drew in my high school classes. Other interests I have had are softball. I played in our city’s Little League for 6 years. I have played volleyball at our middle school and high school from 5th grade to 10th grade.
I am interested in helping other people. I have been involved in my church’s youth mission group for the past four years. The first year I joined this group, we sent to New York to help people and rescue animals after hurricane Sandy. We stayed in a church basement while we helped get food to residents who lost their house in the hurricane. I have been involved with our local Girl Scout troop for 10 years. Our troop is active with assisting local animal organizations. I also have helped organize group events.
Another hobby I have is rescuing animals. I assisted my scout troop in making birdhouses for a local park. I helped organize a trip to a local cat shelter. We cleaned cages, fed the cats and played with them. I enjoyed the cats so much that I went back to the shelter and brought home two unwanted cats. One is a year-old stray tom cat, the other is a kitten that was in a cat-hoarder’s house. Both cats, like people, are thriving in a loving, secure environment.
Kristin's Thank You Note
A goal of mine is to attend an amazing college and learn about the environment so I can work and make an impact in my community. I look forward to working with people and the environment. I personally would like to thank the donors that have made going to college a possibility for me. It means a lot to be able to attend UW Platteville.
