What are you most excited about starting or experiencing at UW-Platteville?

Coming from a high school as small as Mineral Point, I knew all of my classmates on a personal level. Many students from larger schools do not have this pleasure. However, college is a large jump and is harder for students coming from a high school such as mine. I picked UW-Platteville because when visiting I had the same community feeling that I knew and loved. Being a college, UW-Platteville is much larger than any school I have ever attended. I am very excited to further my education as I pursue a degree in Education, and the atmosphere at Platteville will make this transition much easier and more welcoming. The smaller class sizes compared to some larger colleges make UW-Platteville a great choice for someone such as me. My sister is currently attending UW-Platteville which was a large influence on my choice. Her stories about the teachers, fellow students, and community, help me make a positive step forward in furthering my education.

What interests and/or hobbies do you have?

Throughout high school I have been involved in various clubs and activities including FFA, FBLA, Skills USA, math team, science club, and other activities. My membership in these clubs has given me the opportunity to attend many different conferences and workshops to help me decide what I enjoy and what I would like to continue experiencing. Although I have enjoyed all of these things, I have had one main interest in high school; history. While actively taking history classes, I have always gone beyond the curriculum to learn more about the subject matter. I have had the opportunity to have two quality history teachers throughout high school. These two teachers have been very influential in my choice to pursue a degree in Education. I look forward to delving further into history courses in college and the college experience. I hope that I can be as much of a positive influence on my students as a teacher as my teachers have been on me.

Brady's Thank You Note

I would like to personally thank all involved in my selection as the recipient of the Mineral Point High School Community Scholarship. Tuition is one of the greatest barriers most students face going into college and may deter many from attending college. Your generous gift will be used to further my education at the UW-Platteville.  I am very excited to start this journey and am ecstatic that you were willing to help me along to reach my academic goals. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to pursue my goals in life.

What are you most excited about starting or experiencing at UW-Platteville?

As a new student attending UW-Platteville I am most excited about expanding my knowledge, branching out to classes that pertain to my education major, finding myself, and experiencing a new, bigger scene.

What interests and/or hobbies do you have?

I thoroughly enjoy both babysitting and tutoring. Through the kids I attend to, I have made strong bonds not only with them, but also with their families. The feeling one gets from knowing they have made a difference in a child's life is truly amazing. Babysitting along with tutoring both lead me towards my career path in education.

Mariah's Thank You Note

I would like to send out a huge thank you to the UW-Platteville Scholarship Committee for selecting myself as a recipient and also to all of the various donors that have made this scholarship possible for me to obtain.
