A legacy of personal generosity has ensured the success of generations of students at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Throughout the university's history, gifts from alumni, friends, parents, and businesses have had a long-lasting impact on our students. Examples of such generosity include endowed scholarships, contributions to the development fund in support of a particular college, gifts in support of cultural events and athletics, and donations in support of new academic initiatives and technology. NOTE: All gifts to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville should be made through the UW-Platteville Foundation.

Cash Gift

Many donors to UWP choose to make gifts of cash. A cash gift is deductible for the year in which it was given. Cash gifts have an immediate impact on UWP's colleges and programs because they are generally used within the academic year the gift was received. If you would like to make a credit card gift, please call Accounts Receivable at 608/342-1243.

Multi-year Pledge

A gift of cash or securities pledged to be paid to the UW-Platteville Foundation over a period of two to four years can help donors achieve their gift objectives and financial planning goals by spreading a contribution out. This method allows donors to give more generously than they may have considered.

Planned Gifts

Planned gifts are gift arrangements that have specific tax advantages and provide lifetime income to a beneficiary named by the donor. A planned gift maximizes your giving potential and can frequently allow you to insure your future financial security or that of a loved one. One method of planned giving is a bequest. To make a gift to the UW-Platteville Foundation from your estate, you must sign a new will or trust entrustment, add a codicil to your present will, or make an amendment to your present trust intrustment. To ensure that your exact intentions are carried out, estate-planning documents should be prepared in consultation with an attourney and discussed with the UWP Foundation.

Bequests to the UWP Foundation can include cash, securities, real estate, other property, a percentage of the residue of your estate, or all the residue of your estate.

The UW-Platteville's Pioneer Circle Key Club recognizes those individuals who have made an investment in the Foundation for the future of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville through the planning of their estates and their bequests.

Gifts to Endowment - A Lasting Testament

An endowment is a fund that the UW-Platteville Foundation maintains in perpetually. Typically, only a portion of the annual income is used for the purposes specified by the donor. A scholarship fund is but one example of an endowment. Endowments usually retain the name of the donor, reflecting their desires, and serve as a lasting testament to the donor's generosity and values. The UW-Platteville's Foundation management policy ensures that the intended wishes of the donors are as meaningful in the next century as they are today.

Matching Gifts

Many businesses have matching gift programs offering a corporate gift to match the individual contributions of employees. This enables their employee donors to multiply the effectiveness of their charitable contributions. Check with your personnel office to see if they offer such a program.

Gifts of Real Estate and Personal Property

Gifts of real estate and personal property, such as art collections, are sometimes a desirable way for a donor to make a significant gift to the university. These provide the donor with a tax deduction at fair market value of the donation.
