Biographical Information:
Nancy Fairchild is in her eighth year as an adjunct academic staff lecturer at the University of Wisconsin Platteville where she teaches the Elementary Music Methods course for non-music majors. She is an active clinician, conductor and composer. In addition to her duties at the University, Nancy Fairchild is the High School Band Director for the Platteville Public Schools. Prior to this position, she was the Director of the Beginning Band program as well as an elementary music teacher in the Platteville Schools. Her musical training includes a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and Master of Science degree from the University of Illinois. In addition, she is Past President of the Wisconsin Youth Band Directors Association. The Japanese Folk Song, Hotaru Koi, composed for beginning band, can be found with Carl Fischer Publishers. Analysis of this work is in the GIA publication "Teaching Music Through Performance in Beginning Band." Nancy is also a contributing author to the Music Educators National Conference project on teaching strategies for the National Standards in music. Her most recent work, “A Musical Leap Out of Darkness”, is based upon the Jewish life of Leo Bretholz during seven years on the run during World War II. She is an active accompanist, horn player, organist, pianist, arranger, composer, guest conductor, adjudicator, and music consultant.
