A native of Platteville, Susan Savage Day joined the music faculty at University of Wisconsin-Platteville in 2002. A specialist in twentieth-century music, Dr. Savage Day has performed throughout Wisconsin and the Southeast region of the United States. In 1994, she was a winner of the Metropolitan Opera Auditions. She has won awards in National Association of Teachers of Singing and was the Regional Winner in the Upper Great Lakes for NATSAA in 1995.

A member of the UW-Platteville vocal ensemble, Kassia: Women in Song, Dr. Savage Day, helps to create thought-provoking programs designed to entertain and educate. Dr. Savage Day’s varied repertoire ranges from the Baroque oratorio to the twentieth century art song. Specializing in bel canto and twentieth-century repertoire, Dr. Savage Day has performed numerous recitals throughout Wisconsin and Iowa, with a recent live recital broadcast on Wisconsin Public Radio for “Live at the Chazen.” In 2008, Kassia is scheduled to perform recitals in Minnesota.

Dr. Savage Day’s passion for opera and musical theatre began at a young age. Her operatic credits include: Lucia in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, Sandrina in Mozart’s La finta giardiniera, Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro, Lauretta in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, Hanna in Léhar’s The Merry Widow, Baby Doe in Moore’s The Ballad of Baby Doe and many others. In 1999, she directed and sang the title role in Argento’s Miss Havisham’s Wedding Night. Dr. Savage Day will recreate that role at UW-Platteville’s Center for the Arts on January 28, 2008.

Dr. Savage Day has extensive training in body-awareness techniques. A student of Dr. Thomas Houser, she approaches singing with a total body awareness, utilizing her understanding of techniques such as The Alexander Technique and Cranial Sacral Therapy. Inspired by the human instrument, Dr. Savage Day completed training in massage therapy and reflexology in 1992. She went on to successfully complete advanced training in CranioSacral Therapy in July of 2005 with the Upledger Institute. Susan is a current teaching assistant for the Upledger Institute, assisting classes in Craniosacral Therapy I, Craniosacral Therapy II and Somato Emotional Release I. Dr. Savage Day integrates her extensive kinesthetic and anatomical knowledge into her voice studio and the “Bodyworks for Musicians” class that she created for UW-Platteville. Combining her vocal knowledge with her bodywork knowledge, Dr. Savage Day offers a holistic/total body approach for vocalists at UW-Platteville.
