The English test-out program is offered during each day of New Student Registration (without pre-enrollment) during the summer. To take a test-out exam at an alternate time, please contact the Humanities Department office at 608.342.1826 or e-mail Sara Koeller at firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule an appointment. The cost of taking the test-out exam is $40, payable by cash or check to UW-Platteville at the time of the testing.
The English 10 test-out program consists of a grammar portion and an essay. Students passing the English 10 test-out are eligible to enroll in English 1130, but do not receive any retroactive credit for English 10.
Students with a high qualifying score on the UW System English Placement Test have the option of writing a test-out essay exam. Students passing the English 1130 test-out receive 3 credits for English 1130 (College Writing I) and are eligible to enroll in English 1230 (College Writing II).
Please note that if you have earned college credit for English 1130 through either the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) or Advanced Placement (AP) Examination, you cannot receive additional credit through the test-out program.
