Approval of minutes from: 

December 9, 2010—Tim move to approve.  Hal second.  Carried.

January 19, 2011—Tim move to approve.  Philip second.  Carried

January 26, 2011—Tim move to approve.  Phil second.  Carried.

 

Announcements:

  1. Joanne announced that the College of EMS will now have an Assistant Dean as well as an Associate Dean.  Lisa will remain as the Associate Dean.  Philip will be the Assistant Dean through the end of the semester.  These changes are effective this week. 
  2. Joanne also announced that she will be leaving on Friday and will be out of the office all next week.  Lisa will be out the end of next week.
  3. CRST—Committee is meeting and moving forward with meeting guidelines.  Joanne shared a concern with some departments not making a distinction between high merit and merit.  These rankings do impact tenure decisions.  Discussion was also held about inequities. 
  4. Some of you have asked about additional position requests that were submitted from each College—there will be no action on this until the budget is settled at the State level.
  5. Julie asked about another round of Master Planning meetings being held on campus.  Stay tuned.

 

Discussion Topics:

  1. EMS Expo—March 31st.  Motion by Justin and second by Joe to cancel classes and move Math courses out of Ottensman and Engineering Hall.  Carried.
  2. Career Fair (2/17) and Engineering Tour (2/18)—Tm and Phil will be out hosts.  Students have also volunteered.  Events begin at 6 p.m. and food will be offered. 
  3. April 4th—EMS Event; Warren Faidley, the original storm chaser, will be coming for this event.  More details to come.
  4. Budget—Joanne is working on it!  102 accounts are completed and will be submitted like always.  If there are adjustments, please see Joanne before Friday.  TSI requests will be made as well at this time.  Capital requests are also being worked on from Mathematics and Chemistry Departments.  Computer request for Mathematics may be a part of the DIN money this year.  DIN requests are due by the first week in March.
  5. 1:30—Academic Staff Evaluations & Promotion.  Jeanne Durr, Human Resources Director, requested to attend this meeting to talk about this area.  The process is being reviewed and revised at this time.  She outlined the process along with proposed guidelines and examples.  There are different classifications and different guidelines for each classification.  Jeanne is willing to work with each area regarding employees within that area.  She also talked about visa requirements and guidelines.  Some of these responsibilities will now fall to the department level to outline and start the process.  Discussion followed.
