Announcements

  1. Salmon-Stephens shared a new brochure that will be used as a marketing plan for women for campus.  The brochure is very STEM heavy, and all women will receive it.
  2. Wilson said the Japanese contingent that was here a week ago is looking for a faculty member to teach a natural science course for two months during the summer.  If you are interested, please contact Wilson.
  3. Wilson mentioned at the Executive Staff Meeting the Chancellor spoke about the graffiti and said we have not done a great job recruiting students of color on this campus.  He intends to give any student with an ACT above average a full scholarship.  The Chancellor wants to produce high productive students.  Rob Cramer has been charged with finding ways to obtain scholarships for students.

Discussion Topics

  1.  2010 – 2011 Library Department Allocations

Wilson reminded everyone to spend their library allocations.

  1. College Planning

Wilson asked how the planning was going.  There was a lengthy discussion and some of the discussion topics were as follows.

different groups meeting to discuss new majors and minors; holding seminars for the College during the year in terms of what Departments are doing; EMS alumni - possibly developing a brochure for EMS alumni and encourage them to assist us by talking to different places in their community, targeting different alumni graduates each year for homecoming and to also visit with student organizations, retired alumni could assist as volunteers for different things; merit and high merit issues/guidelines; hiring more faculty to free up the workloads; low salaries for new hires; faculty union on campus; surveys, reports, etc., that are done, but do not see results of work.

Wilson thanked everyone for their input because she has some information to share with others even though some of the discussion has been negative.

Other

  1.  Riedle asked this group for assistance in sharing with their faculty and staff to do more mentoring with their mentees.  Also, faculty and teaching academic staff should attend one of the four commencements.
