Executive Council Minutes
February 4, 2008

Approval of minutes.
Announcements:
1. Chuck informed everyone that Sofia Carlos-Cuellar was in a car accident on the way to work this a.m. Word has it that she is in stable but critical condition in Madison. Chuck will keep us informed.
2. Mesut is going to visit Fox Valley tomorrow.
3. Abulkhair indicated that the first Pioneer Preview is this Friday.
Discussion Topics:
1. Tri-State Students International Exchange & Co-op: These students can apply for an extension if needed so they can participate in either of these opportunities. Send the students directly to Lisa. Chuck asked about 8 credits of criminalistics internship and tri-state limits. Lisa will check on this as well.
2. Other—
a. Budget: Rich distributed a memo from DOA and President Reilly. Discussion followed regarding hiring and out-of-state travel. All existing vacancies should continue to move forward in the hiring process. Out-of-state travel must be approved. Travel to Minneapolis and Chicago will be exempt from the approval. Travel rules will apply to GPR and tuition monies.
b. Background checks: Student volunteers will need to have a check completed only if they are handling state money. At the time of the background request, the department will need to transmit the account number to be charged along with the consent form to the HR office. Rich clarified that all new faculty and academic staff hired must have a background check completed and offers should be made contingent upon passing the check. Discussion followed.
c. WWHEL: Carol Sue Butts will once again sponsor up to five women to attend from each college on 3/8.
d. Tammy is still looking for names for the Ad Hoc committee for recruitment and retention of women. Please take care of this matter.
e. Lisa indicated that Richard Thomas will be here from Seville (2/4-2/22) and is available to speak to classes or student organizations.
f. Peter Flannery—He is the artist that has been selected for the new engineering building and he is interested in working with staff and students. Lisa will be discussing with at the next VECTOR meeting.
g. Class for EMS special topics: EMS 4800 Special Topics course will be discussed at the next meeting.
h. Gorilla Art—The Art Department will be sharing sculptures across the campus. Please be aware of this when it appears in your respective areas.
i. Commencement Speakers—It has been decided that these speakers will be chosen by areas and not be a committee. Discussion followed. Lisa will talk to Allison Bunte regarding this matter.
