Executive Council Minutes

December 13, 2007

Visitors Present:  Tammy Salmon-Stephens, Joanne Wilson, Tim Zauche

 

A motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes from November 15th with amended changes to #4.  The motion carried.

 

Announcements

  1. Abulkhair said that the ASEE meeting will be October 2008.  He needs one or two volunteers from each of the following programs; computer science, industrial, electrical, and software engineering to review papers.
  2. Tammy said the finale for the Sky’s the Limit presentation went well.
  3. Joanne Wilson gave an update on the General Education Review Task Force Committee.  If anyone has questions, contact Joanne, Christine, or Phillip.
  4. Dave announced that parents, educators, and handicap children from the Cuba City area were in 203 Ottensman Hall this morning participating in a junior level mechanism class.

 

Agenda

 

  1. WSPE Student Chapter – Tammy said that Angela Baumann, alumni, is active with WSPE in the Wausau area.  Angela is wondering if there is interest in starting a Student Chapter here at UWP?  Is there student interest?  What are the fees?  Rich asked everyone to take this back to their Departments and see if there would be any student interest.  He asked that everyone report back at the January/February meeting with follow-up information.  Tammy said anyone could contact Angela Baumann directly at angela.hanz@wi.usda.gov for more information on WSPE.
  2. EMS Advisory Board – Visits and MSENGR Packets – Following a brief discussion, some of the programs/departments are still making visits to companies while others are done.
  3. Late Withdrawals – Lisa announced that the Late Withdrawal Forms are no longer located in the Dean’s Offices.  Students need to start with the Registrar’s Office to obtain the form, collect signatures, and then submit them to the appropriate Deans’ Offices. 
  4. Distinguished Alumni Award – December 15th Deadline – Rich said everyone should have received this notice/paperwork.  This is a great opportunity to pat someone on the back!
  5. Outstanding Alumni Award – June 1st Deadline – Rich said everyone should have received this notice/paperwork.  Again, this is another great opportunity to pat someone on the back!
  6. NCEES Calculator List – Lisa shared with everyone that there is a new and approved calculator list for the FE/PE.  Please direct students to the website.
  7. PE/FE Results – Lisa asked that the Departments cannot post the detailed results of the PE/FE exams publicly.  The information that she gave to each program is for internal use only.
  8. UUCC – Electrical Engineering – Mesut said that BILSA and LAE will not approve the proposal until the electives are defined.  Currently, he would like comments/feedback from people on the proposal.
  9. UUCC – Chemistry – Chuck submitted a new course, CHEM 4910 – Advance Biochemistry Laboratory.  Abulkhair made a motion to approve after editorial comments are added under Description and Justification for the New Course (add number of credits, when offered, etc.).  Joe seconded the motion.  The motion carried.
  10. Myth Busters – Rich announced that Myth Busters will be coming to town on April 21st.  This is part of the 100-year engineering celebration and sponsored by the student organizations.
  11. Sally Ride – Rich also announced that Sally Ride, first woman astronaut will be coming either late spring or early fall.  No date has been set.  This is also part of the 100-year engineering celebration.

 

Other

  1.  Rich said that we will only have a meeting next week if there are agenda items of importance.  If you do not hear from Rich by Tuesday, there will be no meeting.
