Executive Council Minutes

April 27, 2006

Minutes from April 13, 2006 were approved.

 

Announcements:

 

  1. Tammy said that that were about 60 participants that attended the Women in Engineering Career Day on April 24th.  It was small, but everything went well.
  2. Tammy said the Durrant Women in Engineering Banquet went well last Thursday night and everyone had a nice time.
  3. Mohan said that they received a signed contract for the Computer Science position.
  4. Electrical Engineering has two signed contracts back.
  5. Mechanical Engineering candidates will be coming in next week.

 

Agenda:

 

  1.  EMS Organizations – Tammy Salmon-Stephens

Tammy said that at the Advisory Board Meeting there was discussion on doing more public relations about the students in the College’s student organizations.  There was some discussion on this.  Max suggested having the Public Relations Office send information to the student’s hometown newspaper that they attended a particular banquet, conference, etc.   Tammy asked that if anyone had other suggestions regarding this, to email her.

  1. Bioengineering – Rich Shultz

Rich said that Marilyn Tufte from the Biology Department is interested in a Bioengineering emphasis or a possible degree program some day.  After some discussion, Rich asked that names be submitted to him today of anyone who would be interested in working on this. i.e., Engineering Physics, Mechanical Engineering.  Rich will then contact Marilyn Tufte.

 

Other:

 

  1. Expo – David Kraemer

David said that Expo went well.  There were approximately 475 students and 75 adults who had registered.  Prizes were awarded with $100 – First Place, $50 – Second Place, and $25 – Third Place.  Engineering Physics won the overall Department award and overall Department scoring.  Phil Sealy was approached by someone at GE Medical and they would like to donate prize money.  It would also mean publicity for GE Medical.

  1. Tammy said that Academic Advisor Award Nominations are due May 5th to her.
  2. Tammy also announced that Summer Camps for Women in Engineering are scheduled for July 16-21 and July 23-28.
  3. Rich reminded the chairs that the post tenure review reports are due.
  4. Rich said that summer appointment letters will be coming out sometime during the first two weeks of May.
