MINUTES - EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING

Members Present:         M. Anderson, J. Clifton,  M. Gill, A. Masoom, M. Muslu, L. Riedle, K. Rolle, R. Shultz, D. St. John, S. Wills

Minutes were approved from February 10, 2005.

 

Announcements:

  1. Sheryl announced that the Mathematics Department has two verbal acceptances for their positions
  2. Abulkhair reported that at the two Pioneer Preview sessions that have been held this semester there has been a good showing of candidates.
  3. Abulkair also informed those present of an opportunity to attend a free workshop on Femlab at UW Madison.
  4. There is a third candidate interviewing today for the Industrial Engineering position.
  5. Tammy provided an update regarding the minority program from last week.   The evaluations to date have been good and she thanked those who participated.
  6. An ABET training web conference sponsored by ASCE will be offered here on campus for those interested on March 29 and 30 from 2:00-5:00 p.m.  Lisa has the distance education room booked for the purpose of this conference. 
  7. Lisa reported that the Chicago reception went well and there were more than anticipated for attendance.  Discussion followed.
  8. Rich announced that the Janesville Initiative has made it in to the Governor’s budget.  UWFV would like to start electrical engineering there as well as Janesville at the same time.

 

Discussion Topics:

1.      General Engineering Report—Abulkhair went through the highlights of the report and requested that the departments share this information with faculty.  Discussion followed.

2.      Commencement Speaker—Rich encouraged the Executive Council to bring forward some nominees from the College of EMS. 

3.      Administrative Reductions—The Governor’s budget has allocated for new positions within the UW system as well as a reduction of FTEs.  Currently there is a 5% and 7.5% reduction planning exercise taking place for each of the next two years.  All faculty and teaching academic staff are exempt from this exercise which leaves just administration and classified positions within our college. 

4.      Air Handling Project—During the summer months, some areas of Ottensman will be without air conditioning. 

5.      EXPO—All engineering and chemistry/physics classes will be cancelled for this event on March 31st.  The committee is still looking for judges and would like to encourage faculty involvement and participation.  Program registration form and food forms are being collected. 

6.      Other—Nothing.
