Executive Council Minutes for October 15, 2003

Announcements:
Mesut Muslu reported that Alliance Laundry had donated about $30,000 worth of “usable” lab equipment.
Mohan Gill reported that the Computer Science Advisory Board was meeting tomorrow.
Tammy Salmon-Stephens reported that the WIE career day was full at 170 students and asked for help from the faculty.
Chuck Cornet announced that the EMS Alumni Chapter plaques explaining the pictures of the faculty in the hall of Ottensman and listing the Deans of the College since inception were done. Also the emeriti awards for retiring faculty were started. The fish fry and brat lunch were a success.
Lisa Riedle will meet with representatives from BILSA pertaining to the renovation of Ottensman Hall.
Rich Shultz reminded everyone of the College meeting on Oct. 22 at 4:00 pm, the College dinner on Oct. 30 at 5:30, and the WSPE dinner tomorrow night.
Discussion Topics:
Administrative Information Access to PeopleSoft request forms were distributed. The importance of confidentiality and keeping the number of people with this access limited was discussed.
New policies for posting and advertising in the Residence Halls were distributed.
The Chairs were charged with starting discussions with faculty about possible donors for the new Ottensman construction. Each Chair should return with names of possible individual and corporate donors next week.
Other business included discussions on the process for winterim and short courses which include travel abroad. Until written policies are in place, all such proposals must be reviewed by the Chair of the Department and the Dean of the College.
Nominees for 2004-2005 Wisconsin Teaching Fellow and Wisconsin Teaching Scholar were requested. The appropriate forms can be obtained from Carol or Jean.
The suggestions for members of the advisory committee for the electronic undergraduate research journal were Lisa Riedle, Chuck Cornet, and Abulkhair Masoom.
