Minutes of February 3, 1999 were approved after changing Item 2.c. to read "...issued by either the department chair, program coordinator or the dean."
Announc ements
The Dean has been asked to respond to System regarding training for department chairs. A copy of the request will be sent to each chair. The Dean would like feedback from the chairs in the form of short, quick bullet items before the end of this week.
The College of EMS Advisory Board will be meeting March 26, the same day as Expo. The Dean is looking for agenda items or a theme by the end of this week.
Discussion Items
A discu ssion was held on student advising folders and their location. No consensus resulted from the discussion, so the Dean will review the issue further.
The issue of PeopleSoft training was discussed. Each college will be allowed to have one Client with two people to be trained and having the same access as the administrative offices. The Dean felt that program assistants would be the best candidates for the training because of their need to access information for student records. C. Beals and M. Kurth were selected for this process. The Dean will work with them on a location for the Client.
The cross-listing of EE331 and ME433 was approved. It was suggested that a comment be added concerning prerequisites for the courses.
The Ethnic Studies Curricular Development Fund Request form from S. Nicol was discussed. S. Nicol has requested funding to develop a course titled "Race and Science". The course would be taught in the spring semester for three credits and housed in the College of EMS. Members felt that the course should also count toward Social Science and Humanities to attract students, and that it was important for the college to endorse every opportunity to support such courses.
Other Business
L. Riedle submitted two proposals for new course approval. Courses 381 Occupational Safety and Health for General Industry and 382 Occupational Safety and Health for the Construction Industry were approved b y the Council.
The Dean would like input from Council members on whether UWP should look at a delivery system for undergraduate engineering in the Fox Valley area. There would be two audiences: people working in industry and those new high school students in pre-engineering. There are a significant number of pre-engineering students at both Fox Valley and Oshkosh who currently transfer to Madison or Milwaukee. The Dean would appreciate any feedback on this issue. This item may be included o n a future agenda.
J. Krogman pointed out that the Executive Council minutes were not up-to-date on the web. New students have been hired, and this should be corrected in the near future.
