MINUTES - EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING

1. Minutes of March 3, 1999 were approved as distributed.



2. Announcements

a. T. Salmon announced that the College advising newsletter would

be distributed shortly. The newsletter will include information on common EMS

courses and pre- and co-requis ites. Faculty are encouraged to make use of this

document. T. Salmon should be contacted regarding questions on advising and

the class schedule.

b. The Women In Engineering Career Day will be held Thursday,

March 25. Faculty are invited to join the participants at lunch in the Touche.

c. T. Ceylan reported that the Wisconsin Professional Engineer

magazine featured UWP on its front cover and included an article on the Wo men

In Engineering Program.

d. L. Riedle announced that: (l) BILSA was interviewing three

candidates for dean, (2) a sidewalk is scheduled to be built this summer to

connect the back lot with the far lot near Southwest Road, and (3) applications

for new freshmen, women and transfers are up campus-wide.

e. F. Tufte indicated that the third faculty member had been

hired. The person has two years of industry expe rience.

f. M. Anderson reported that P. Parker had been hired.



3. Discussion Topics

a. Eight people are being sought from the UWP campus to

participate in the Instructional Academic Staff Forum to be held April 23. The

deadline for submitting names to the Dean's Office is March 31.

b. The Chancellor's Focus Group for Students With Disabilities

would like to encourage faculty members to include in their syllabi a statement

concerning disabilities. Information will be disseminated to all faculty and

staff prior to the fall semester.

c. Two curriculum documents were submitted from the Department of

Chemistry and Engineering Physics: (l) Drop Chemistry 143 Water Analysis and

(2) Drop Chemistry 165 General Chemistry. Both documents were approved.

d. M. Anderson distributed a summary of k nowledge gained from

attending the Midwest Department Heads meeting on ABET. Thirty-seven

department heads attended, with twelve departments having been evaluated last

fall under the new criteria. Three department chairs spoke about their

experiences. L. Riedle was asked to bring more detailed FE exam results to the

next meeting. Lisa also alerted the members that changes could be made to the

catalog copy.
