Announcements

Provost Butts will be attending the December 4 meeting.

The merged Library Information Technology structure was distributed.

The revised copy of "Su pporting Outdated Technology" includes the update of replacing older unsupported hardware and software within one budget cycle.

A memo from R. Fujita was distributed regarding the economic impact of UWP on Southwestern Wisconsin.

Information on the Gear-Up and Teacher Quality programs will be available in the Dean's Office.

Information on the Opportunity Fund Program should be available before Thanksgiving.

Fall 1999 New Freshmen applications are at 924 compared to 980 for last year.

A discussion was held on closed sections of Chemistry, General Engineering and Mathematics. This issue will be raised at the Cabinet meeting. It was felt that new initiatives should include resources dedicated to students. Closed classes do not enhance student recruitment.

J. Krogman raised the issue of departmental Web pages including scholarship information. The University Scholarship Committee has a Web site which is kept up-to-date. Each department should check this Web site to determine whether a link to this site would be advantageous.

Discussion Topics

A draft of the Exit Questionnaire for graduating engineers was reviewed. Chemistry/Physics and Mathematics will prepare a similar, but separate document. The engineering questionnaire, however, will include courses from Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. A suggestion was made to include on the signature attachment an invitation for a personal one-on-one exit interview. Departments will prepare a separate page(s) for responses to departmental goals and objectives. The new Exit Questionnaire will be used for the Spring Semester.

L. Riedle, in preparing the new catalog copy, found that the internship section for each department varied. It was decided that these sections would all list the co-op office for consistency. It was also decided that the College "front page" would list departments rather than majors, since in the College of EMS there are no "hidden" majors in the departmental titles.

T. Ceylan distributed and reviewed a handout outlining his attendance at the October 1998 ABET Annual Meeting. The Dean thanked Tamer for representing the College. During the collection of materials and data, steps taken should be recorded to provide the "how" and "why" for the ABET team.

Other Business

L. Riedle distributed copies of the cover letters to accompany both the Engineering A lumnus and the Employer Questionnaires.
