MINUTES - EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING

Members Present: M. Anderson, T. Ceylan,
J. Clough, J. Krogman, J. Miller, M. Muslu, L. Riedle, R. Shultz, P. Young and J. Wilson
- Minutes of March 10, 1998 were approved as distributed.
- Announcements
- It was announced that S. Tandon had suffered a heart attack and was in ICU at Mercy.
- Ron and Maril Yeske sent their greetings from the Final Four Competition in Virginia.
- Attendance at the Annual Student Life Cere
mony (April 23) and the Fieldhouse Late
Night (March 27) would be appreciated.
- Deadline for nominations for Faculty College '98 is Wednesday, March 25.
- Grants for Excellence deadline is Friday, March 27.
- There will be another opportunity to apply for a $10,000 Opportunity Fund Award
later this spring.
- The 1998 Office Professional's Day Conference for Program Assistants will be held
Thursday, April 23 at the Sinsinawa Mound Center. Supervisors were encoura
ged to
support the attendance. R. Curtis will cover travel funds.
- Discussion Topics
- Faculty attendance is encouraged at the Order of the Engineer Ceremony following
Commencement.
- The Department of Chemistry and Engineering Physics submitted two proposals for
approval. The changes in requirements for the Biotechnology Minor were discussed.
The Department will no longer be listed in the catalog as a sponsoring department. It
wa
s suggested that the justification be revised. The proposal was approved. The
second proposal involved a change in credit for Biology 451. Proposal was approved.
- Exceptions to the Four-year Graduation Guaranty will be submitted for those EMS
majors involving teacher certification. J. Wilson asked that advisors encourage
students to be involved with student organizations and co-ops. She also indicated that
the Advising Task Force recommends that one person from each department be
assigned t
o advise these students.
- Scholarly Activity Improvement Fund (SAIF) Awards were approved for Max
Anderson, Abulkhair Masoom, Fahmida Masoom, Faramarz Mossayebi, Piyare
Sharma, and Yuan Ling Wang.
- Other Business
- The EMS Advisory Board will be meeting on Friday, April 3 during the
Engineering/Science Expo. Engineering classes will be canceled on that day.
- A draft prepared by the Student Evaluations Committee was distr
ibuted by M. Muslu
and will be placed on the next agenda for action. The Mathematics Department will
use their own evaluation form.
