MINUTES - EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING
Tuesday, February 24, 1998 - 3:00 p.m. - Ottensman 149
Members Present: M. Anderson, T. Ceylan, J. Krogman, J. Miller,
M. Muslu, L. Riedle, R. Shultz, F. Tufte, J. Wilson and P. Young
- Minutes of February 10 were approved as distributed.
- Announcements
- Nominations for Faculty College 1998 are due in the Provost's Office by March 25.
- Alumni Life Membership nominations should be submitted to B. Daus by March 13.
- The Dean reminded the members of the following awards:
-1998 Teaching Awards -
Deadline March 13
-WP&L Underkofler Excellence in Teaching Awards - Deadline March 13
-Regents Teaching Excellence Awards - Deadline March 13
-UTIC Conference Development Grants - Deadline March 31
- Karen and Tony Thomas are the proud parents of a baby girl.
- Bob Hansen is still hospitalized, but in stable condition.
- J. Krogman reported that 618 new freshmen have been admitted-
up 24 students from
last year.
- J. Wilson reported that 27 students have indicated they would be attending the reception
for admitted engineering students at HNTB in Milwaukee.
- The first APC reading of the Master's in Project Management will take place this
Thursday.
- Discussion Topics
- The Admissions Office has supplied information on every admitted student for potential
faculty phone calls. The department chair will
be responsible for selecting the students
to be contacted, but students asking for a faculty member to call should definitely be
called. Once the students are contacted, the forms will be sent back to B. Karrmann.
No script was provided for this year's calls.
- Work request forms submitted for the computer specialists (Clyde Holverson and Jim
Wiese) have resulted in some requests with a lead time of the same day or the next day.
The Dean would like to add an additional line on the forms which
would require the
work to be completed with a minimum lead time of one week later than the submission
date. Emergency requests should be communicated by phone or verbally. Council
members approved the change to the work request forms.
- J. Krogman reviewed the Fall 1997 General Engineering Report. Departments should
report their core GPA's to John. T. Ceylan conveyed his thanks to both John and Mary
Kurth for their work in supplying the information.
- The Department of Chemistry an
d Engineering Physics submitted proposals for new
courses entitled 102 Introductory Chemistry and 145 Chemistry for Engineers. Motion
was made and seconded to approve the documents. Motion passed.
- The Department of Electrical Engineering submitted proposals for new courses entitled
401 UHF Amplifier Design and 402 UHF Oscillator Design. Motion was made and
seconded to approve both courses. Motion passed.
- Other Busines

- Some interest has been expressed in the Stanford University Workshop.
- A questions was raised about the return of textbooks checked out by faculty. The Dean
indicated that every effort should be made to retrieve the books.
- The Dean requested items for the April 3 Advisory Board meeting. Last year's agenda
will be distributed.
- A clarification was made concerning the four-year graduation guarantee. Professional
advisors will be assigned to those s
tudents involved in the guarantee.
- A question was raised concerning the Foreign Language requirement.
