Institutions have a time frame in which they may choose between the current or new criteria. Dean Horn felt that a decision should be made after institutions have b een evaluated using the new criteria. The second issue discussed was the identification of engineering design credit. Should each program area decide the credit based on its own mission and objectives, or should all areas agree on a College range? It was felt that the process should produce a flow chart which clearly identifies the process of teaching the design component. New curriculum proposals should include a coherent plan for the identification of engineering science and de sign components. These issues will be revisited during the fall semester. b. A draft was disseminated of the "Consulting Work/Sponsored Research Reporting Form" for comments. This form will be used to report significant professional activities which include, but are not limited to: 1) externally directed professional consulting, with or without extra compensation, and 2) university directed professional development activities whether on "released time" or on an "overload" basis for extra compensation. c. The 1997-98 guidelines for the Pioneer Undergraduate Research Fellows (PURF) competition were discussed. The deadline is March 14, 1997. d. Budget preparation should include a realistic reporting of expenses, with an increase limit of 3-5 percent from last year's budget. e. R.
