New Business ________________________________________________________ MINUTES - EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING Tuesday, September 10, 1996 - 11:00 a.m. - Ottensman 149 Members Present: M. Ande rson, T. Ceylan, J. Clough, F. Domann, D. Horn, J. Krogman, M. Muslu (proxy for R. Shultz), C. Sundin,and F. Tufte 1. Minutes of September 3, 1996 were approved as distributed. 2. Announcements a. Co-op meeting is scheduled for today at 3:30 p.m. b. ASEE Prism's lead article on enrollment indicated that UW-P no longer had an engineering program. The author has been contacted, and a retraction will be made. 3. Discussion Topics a. Exit survey results wer e distributed to each department along with a summary prepared by J. Krogman. Each department will be asked to prepare an assessment report based on fall and spring surveys. NCA will be looking very closely at assessment plans. It was reported that committees from the Departments of Mathematics and Chemistry and Physics are working on the preparation of survey forms. b. J. Krogman distributed the schedule for Introduction to Engineering presentations and tours. c. Copies of last year's Counselor Newsletter were distributed. Any changes or new submissions should be sent to J. Krogman within a week. 4. New Business a. J. Krogman brought up the issue of loading software in the labs. After some discussion, it was felt that this was an agenda item for the College Computer Committee. b. M. Anderson questioned whether there should be a college-wide policy on work requests from outside companies. The Dean discussed th is issue with R. Curtis, and it was felt that smaller jobs should be completed as part of the partnership agreement with a possible donation to the College Foundation accounts. Larger jobs should be completed with a contract. c. The minimum wage increase will take effect on October 1. Guidelines will be distributed to departments. d. The Dean encouraged members to attend the Career Planning and Placement's 31st Annual Employer Fair on Tuesday, September 24 from 9:00 -3:00 in the Beaux Arts Room of the Student Center. e. Exemplary faculty awards were discussed. It was felt that there was still interest, but that the early September time frame needed to be changed. It was determined that the deadline would be moved back to early May, with a March or April notification date. f. The Dean indicated that the UTIC calendar with deadlines and activities would be distributed to all departments. g. F. Tufte reported that the Hoover Museum in West G rant, Iowa, would be worth visiting since half its displays focused on engineering.
