New Business ________________ ________________________________- MINUTES - EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING Wednesday, April 10, 1996 - 8:00 a.m. - Ottensman 149 Members Present: M. Anderson, J. Blomquist, F. Domann, D. Horn, J. Krogman, D. Logan, A. Richert, P. Sharma (proxy for R.Shultz), and C. Sundin 1. Minutes of March 29 were approved as distributed. 2. Discussion Topics a. Engineering/Science Expo - J. Wilson requested support for coordinating the Expo event. Each department wa s asked to submit one or two faculty volunteers to participate. b. Available Equipment - J. Wilson updated the Council on available equipment for faculty and student use: LCD panel, 35 mm cameras (2), senior design supplies, laptop computer (ordered) and Thomas' Registering (ordered). These materials can be checked out through J. Olson, and will be stored in an area accessible to users. c. U.S. First - J. Clough reported on the U.S. First project. The robot has been s hipped, and the team will be leaving campus next Tuesday. An additional $l,500 is needed to fund the project for this year. If the U.S. First project is to continue, additional support is needed for both finances and faculty. Departments were asked to submit their suggestions. d. Grant Cost Sharing - Sources for matching funds must be identified before grants will be approved. A statement of commitment should be submitted along with the proposal. e. Pre-Spending - Purc hase requisitions for approved capital items should be processed prior to May 1. f. DIN Funds - DIN budget printouts were distributed. Departments should be encumbering balances prior to the deadlines. g. Engineering Faculty Forum - NTU has the following special programs: --Teaching Manufacturing Across the Curriculum (April 9) --Teaching College Freshmen 3-D Spatial Visualization (May 14) --Using the Internet in Undergraduate Instruction (June 4) The May 14 forum will be broadcast live in Room 159 of the Pioneer Tower from 3:00-4:00 p.m. Tapes will be available from the Dean's Office for the April 9 and June 4 forums. h. Equipment Policies - A draft of the equipment policies for Television Services was disseminated. Video equipment purchases will be screened by Television Services. i. Budget Printouts - Departments will be receiving printouts of their budgets detailing expenses from last year, and year-to-date expenses. This w ill allow departments to decide whether to remain with the designated allocations. j. The next meeting of the Council will be Friday, April 26 at 1:00 p.m. in Ottensman 149.
