Blomquist, J. Clough, D. Horn, J. Krogman, D. Logan, A. Richert and R. Wetzel (for Anderson) Visitor Present: H. Hensley 1. Minutes of March 1 were approved as distributed. 2. Announcements a. Reports were made on the telephone calls to admitted students. There was an approximate 70 percent retent ion rate, which keeps the College on track for fall enrollment. b. J. Clough reported on U.S. First. Funding is still being sought to cover the travel expenses. c. Mac Klingler from John Deere reported that the proposals for grant funding were being reviewed. 3. The curriculum proposal from the Department of Chemistry and Physics, Charting the Night Sky, was reviewed. It was recommended that the prerequisite for the course be listed as being limited to practicing teacher s. Motion to approve the proposal was moved and seconded. Motion passed. 4. Discussion Topics a. Engineering Science Expo was discussed. It was felt that this event generated positive results for the College, and that an effort should be made to have a support group involved in the event planning. b. J. Krogman proposed General Education curriculum changes for Council review prior to formal proposals being submitted: --Mechanics of Materials separated into a 3-credi t lecture and a l-credit lab. --Circuits - Changes in topics including more experiences with actual devices with a lab component. --Reducing Graphics from 3 to 2 credits. c. The budget for supplies and travel for the next fiscal year will be funded at the same rate as this fiscal year. However, student help budgets (regular and work study) will be cut. Capital budget was funded for the first ten items submitted. d. Agenda items are being sought for the April 29 Advisory Board meeting. e. Engineering Physics proposal has been approved by System for submission to the Board of Regents at its May meeting. Environmental Engineering is still being reviewed.
