New Business __________________________________________________________________________ MINUTES - EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING Friday, January 19, 1996 - 12:00 noon - Ottensman 149 Members Present: M. Anderson, J. Clough, F. Domann, D. Horn, J. Krogman, D. Logan, A. Richert, C. Sundin and J. Wilson 1. Minutes of January 9 were approved as distributed. 2. Announcements a. J. Krogman reported that the John Deere Dubuque Works has committed to a minority scholarship program of up to $5,000/year (maximum of 4.5 years) for a student majoring in engineering (including a co-op experience) starting the fall of 1996. b. Enrollment statistics for the fall 1996 show the College of EMS to be right on track. The capture rate is usually around 60 percent. c. F. Domann reported that SPS is interested in joining a Sun Race. d. D. Logan indicated that his department is receiving $108,000 of equipment from Best Power. e. The Dean indicated he would lik e to see good representation at the Chamber of Commerce's Annual Banquet on February 10. f. P. Hundley will allow the use of the Phone-a-thon rooms for the purpose of calling donors and prospective students. The Dean indicated that contributors of $100+ should definitely be sent a letter or called. 3. Discussion Topics a. PURF Grants should be submitted by the March 15 deadline. Students should be encouraged to participate. The Dean will fund re search beyond the PURF Grant funding for worthy projects. b. John Deere Dubuque Works' support has increased to $23,500/year. Proposals for the Partnership Grant need to be submitted by the March 1 deadline. The proposals for the recruitment of minority and women students are due at the end of March. May 1 is the deadline for the scholarship proposals. J. Krogman felt that more publicity needs to be developed to recognize this support. c. Laboratory Moder nization Proposals - Projects submitted last year need to be updated for status. J. Wilson will coordinate the projects to be included for the current year. Deadline for submission is January 31. d. Environmental Engineering - An additional position is available, but the funding must come from reallocated resources. 4. Curriculum Proposals a. CE 432 - Air Pollution Effects, Measurement and Control was approved with the addition of $300 in supplies for continuing costs. 5. Ne w Business a. CIF Proposals will be sent to the review committee on Monday. b. Five SAIF proposals were submitted and sent to K. Lomax. c. Deadline for the submission of nominations for distinguished alumni is January 26. d. The Dean announced that there are academic staff in the College who qualify for multi-year appointment decisions. e. A clarification was made on the evaluations for department chairs. The DRBs will evaluate the chairs on teaching and service. The Dean will eva luate the chairs on administrative performance. f. J. Wilson asked for agenda items for the January 29 faculty meeting.
