Welcome to the College of Engineering, Mathematics, and Science Cooperative Engineering Program!

What is Cooperative

Cooperative Education (Co-op) is one form of an experiential learning opportunity.  Co-op is also a plan of education that actively combines classroom learning and on-the-job experience by alternating periods of study and work.  The work period is spent in full-time employment with private industry or governmental agencies.  The work assignment exposes the student to a variety of experiences and is closely related to his/her field of study and career goals.

How Does the Co-op Program Work?

Students with an overall GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale and that have competed 30 credits are eligible.  Some employers have requested co-op students who have had particular course completion prior to the co-op experience.  Other Employers suggest multiple term co-ops. The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Career Center works closely with the co-op Program to assist students looking for positions.
