Mission

To stimulate women to achieve their full potential in careers as leaders and engineers, expand the image of the engineering profession, and demonstrate the value of diversity.

GOALS 2015-2017

The UW-Platteville Society of Women Engineers strive to achieve, advance, and aspire women and men on campus. This group has formulated goals for the 2015-2017 school year:

  • Increase attendance and membership for both men and women in our section on campus for SWE.
  • Strive to become more diverse in the majors, besides engineering, we attract for our section on campus.
  • Connect with other organizations on campus to diversify our members.

MONTHLY MEETINGS

The UW-Platteville section of SWE holds monthly section meetings to discuss activities, listen to guest speakers, and participate in company tours. Watch your e-mail for out weekly email, SWEekly, with updates for our chapter. If you would like to receive the SWEekly please email the executive board and we would be more than happy to add you.

Each month our organization partners with another on campus organization for a different social. In the past we have gone to a brewers game with ASCE, game night with the robotics club, and decorated cookies and cupcakes with the Doyle Center. This spring semester we will be going to a Dubuque hockey game with the WEMS Mentor Program, Cake Decorating with the green campus project, and a cookoff with IEEE.

All of our meetings can be found on the side of this page. We will only be emailing our events and not providing a paper mailer to everyone this year. Please check out our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages for updates from our events.

INVOLVEMENT

For all SWE social activities, meet in the Women in EMS Mentor Center, Otts 045. This is also where the SWE is located. The SWE section is active in EMS Expo, Women in Engineering Career Day, WEMS Advisory board, and other university/college sponsored events. The section enjoys collaborating with other student groups and providing outreach to elementary, middle, and high school students.

New this year, 2016-2017, a new event is being created to do outreach with the local Girl Scout troops. This event will take place in the spring semester. If you would like to help with this event please contact our executive board. Watch for more information coming shorlty this spring semester.
