Dr. D. Joanne Wilson Women in EMS Scholarship
Dr. D. Joanne Wilson is currently the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. On two occassions she has served as the interim Dean of the College of Engineering, Mathematics, and Science. She was also the executive director of the First Year Experience program for four years, and served as the assistant dean of the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Science for seven years.
As a member of the UW-Platteville General Engineering Department since 1986, Wilson was the recipient of the Underkofler Excellence in Teaching Award for UW System professors in 1994. She was also the inaugural recipient of UW-Platteville's Woman of the Year award in 2004, recognized for her impact on the lives of women on campus.
Wilson earned her M.S. and Ph.D. in engineering mechanics from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.
Throughout her years of service and many roles at UW-Platteville, Wilson has always been an advocate for students, and especially for women. She has served, formally and informally, as a mentor to countless students, staff, and faculty members. Because of her unwavering support for and significant contributions to the women of the UW-Platteville campus, the Women in Engineering, Mathematics and Science Program is pleased to honor her with the naming fo the D. Joanne Wilson Women in Engineering, Mathematics, and Science Scholarship, to be awarded annually to eligible incoming freshmen women who plan to pursue studies in a College of EMS major.
Any freshman or transfer female student can apply for the D. Joanne Wilson Women in EMS Scholarship and interest in all the following programs are eligible:
- Civil, electrical, environmental, general, industrial, mechanical, microsystems and nanotechnology, software engineering and engineering physics
- Chemistry - standard major, ACS approved major and secondary education
- General science - standard major and secondary education
- Mathematics - standard major and secondary education
- Sustainable and renewable energy systems
- Computer science
Any female student who is interested in any of the above fields, displays outstanding leadership, academic achievement and extra-curricular activities is asked to apply for this scholarship. Applications are due February 1 and one $500 award will be given for the following fall semester.

Requirements to apply:
- Select the New Freshmen Scholarships option at the link below.
- Choose one of the majors listed above as your intended major.
- Apply by February 1.
- Be admitted to UW-Platteville by mid-January.
