Distance Education Teaching Resources

Thanks to a UW System grant from the Committee on Baccalaureate Expansion (COBE), seven Electrical Engineering (EE) faculty at UWP went through a three-week training on the use of streaming video and related technologies in July 2008. The training included lectures by professionals as well as workshops on various technologies such as D2L, tablet PC, smart boards, document cameras, and windows journal. The ultimate goal of the workshop was to provide training to faculty so that they could use these technologies to deliver a UWP Electrical Engineering degree to working adults and place-bound students in Wisconsin.

In the 2008-09 academic year, four of the seven faculty taught courses in the distance education room using streaming video as the backbone of the course delivery. The faculty members used the distance education room, Ottensmans Hall 203, to teach the class to the Platteville campus students. These lectures are captured as they are presented to students on Platteville campus and streamed to remote sites within 15 minutes of the end of lecture. Since the students at other locations are working adults, this method of asynchronous delivery is chosen rather than live delivery.

Since virtually all EE courses have integrated laboratories, design projects, and discussion periods, faculty used various technologies to supplement the lectures.

This website provides information about the courses delivered, faculty members involved, and faculty and student views on the use of streaming video technologies in the classroom.
