Learn more about Rayna-Lee Sommers:

Born and bred in Newcastle, Australia, Rayna brings a diverse range of experience and knowledge to the program.  Her diverse work and life experience along with her background as an educator has given her great insights to a range of experiences to support students residing in the Newcastle area from overseas.

Rayna comes from an academic and teaching background in early childhood studies. She has worked within the early childhood teaching area for almost 20 years, with experience in writing and delivering various curriculums and programs to meet each individual's needs.  Rayna's background in teaching has allowed her to communicate and work with people of various cultures, backgrounds, and religions to come together as a team and meet the individual needs of their most prized possessions: their children. She has most recently, due to having children, been successfully running her own family day care business out of her family home for the past six years.

Both Rayna and her husband Jason, pictured above, are well-traveled, spending time traveling and working throughout Australia, Europe, UK, New Zealand, Asia, and Papua New Guinea. They have both lived in Newcastle throughout their lives and they currently live close to campus where they raise their four beautiful children: Storm 7, Boston 3, and Loki and Dali, twins born August 2012.

Students will have access to a wealth of knowledge about the local area and infrastructure through Rayna's range of experience assisting, supporting, and encouraging students to obtain the most enjoyable and safe experience while fulfilling their academic goals.

Rayna is excited to meet you in Newy, the local nickname for Newcastle, and to begin sharing her amazing country and culture with you. She is confident that students will love to immerse themselves in the Newcastle beaches, art and café culture, nightlife, amazing scenery, and welcoming people as much as she does.

See you down under!
