UW-Platteville Education Abroad has been helping students from across the United States study at the Spanish-American Institute of International Education (SAIIE) since 1984.  SAIIE instructs American students studying abroad through UW-Platteville Education Abroad and offers an intercultural learning experience through academics, excursions, conversation partnerships with native Spanish speakers, volunteer opportunities, internships and athletics programs.  SAIIE's Athletic programs are unique as they offer student athletes the chance to add a sports element to their academic studies at SAIIE and allows them the opportunity to continue to train and practice in their chosen sport while abroad. The athletic programs that are hosted in Spring/Fall include soccer, volleyball, rugby and water polo. The Summer program covers basketball, swimming, rowing and rugby.

Since 1984, students from more than 250 universities nationwide have chosen to study abroad in Seville, Spain through UW-Platteville Education Abroad.   

Academic Programs

SAIIE has partnered with the Universidad de Sevilla and EUSA (la Escuela Universitaria de Sevilla) to offer more course options to students attending SAIIE. Classes will take place at both SAIIE and the relevant partner institution. At EUSA, the students will be able to share classes with both Spanish students and students from other European countries, which will help them to achieve an even deeper level of cultural immersion.

SAIIE-Universidad de Sevilla

International Studies and Contemporary Hispanic Studies
SPRING AND FALL. This program is designed for students that have a basic level or lower intermediate level of Spanish, so there are no language prerequisites required. The program has been put together to offer American students their first experience with Spanish culture and its historical, social and economic context.
Language Requirement: No prior knowledge of Spanish required.

Liberal Arts, Business and Spanish Language and Culture
SPRING AND FALL.This program is designed for students that have a minimum high intermediate level of Spanish, and for those who want to combine their academic experience with the total cultural immersion through the extra curricular activities offered by our program.
Language Requirement: 5 semester college – level Spanish.

Advanced Spanish Language and Culture
SPRING AND FALL.This program is designed for students that have an advanced level of Spanish and for those who want the challenge to perfect their knowledge of the language and the distinct features of Spanish culture.
Language Requirement: 6 semester college – level Spanish.

SAIIE-EUSA

Communication, New Media, Journalism and Tourism
SPRING AND FALL.This program offers students the opportunity to experience international education in two different environments: the SAIIE campus and EUSA (la Escuela Universitaria de Sevilla). At EUSA, the students will be able to share classes with both Spanish students and students from other European countries, which will help them to achieve an even deeper level of cultural immersion.

Students at the EUSA Campus will take courses in the following areas:

  • Audiovisual Communications: History, Technology, Writing, Culture, Advertising, Publications, Scripting, Film-Making, Spanish for Communications, Media Studies, Art, Cinema, and Business
  • Journalism: Creative Writing, Art, Media, Law, Political Science, History, Language, New Reporting, Advertising, Public Relations, Cyber Culture
  • Publication: Advertising, Marketing, Social Media, Media Studies, Photography, Sociology, Art, Design, Geography, and Ethics
  • Tourism: Operations, Management, Business, Statistics, Law, German for Tourism, French for Tourism, Human Resources, Marketing, Political Science, and Computer Science.

Language Requirement: 6 semester college – level Spanish.

SAIIE

Intensive Spanish Language
SPRING AND FALL. The Intensive Language Track is designed for students on the beginning and intermediate levels who want to focus solely on the acquisition of Spanish.
Language Requirement: 2-3 years of high-school Spanish or 1 semester college – level Spanish.

Spanish Language, Business and Liberal Arts
SUMMER SESSION. This program is designed for all students, independent of their specialties and their level of Spanish. We put a particular emphasis on courses related to Spanish history and culture in its various forms with the aim of helping to improve the students´ level of Spanish, as well as facilitating their cultural immersion and knowledge about a city as multicultural and mixed as Seville. 
Language Requirement: No prior knowledge of Spanish required.

Artistic Monuments in Andalusia
WINTERIM. Get to know Andalucia´s diverse culture through the monuments of its three main cities: Seville, Córdoba and Granada.
Language Requirement: No prior knowledge of Spanish required.

 

Seville and SAIIE

Occupying a single, self-contained building, SAIIE is just minutes from many of Seville’s famous sights.  The surrounding neighborhood offers a range of shops, restaurants, cafes, and pubs, and Seville’s museums, galleries, monuments, and nightlife are easily accessed by public transportation or are within walking distance.  With a population of 750,000, Seville has all of the advantages of a big city while still maintaining Spanish charm and culture.
