Yes, UW-Platteville is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the
North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. UW-Platteville is nationally recognized
by the U.S. Department of Education. The business faculty has been actively involved in
distance learning for 25 years and 40% have received awards for teaching and advising
excellence. Distance learning students complete the same requirements and earn the same
degree as campus students

- Will my previous course work transfer to UW-Platteville?
The Distance Learning Center staff will review and evaluate transcripts to determine which
credits will transfer to UW-Platteville before you are admitted to a degree program. The
number of credits transferred will depend on the accreditation of previous schools
attended, grades received, and the content of courses taken. There are articulation
agreements in effect with technical colleges in Wisconsin and, increasingly, with two-year
colleges in Iowa. UW-Platteville must abide by these agreements, which indicate which
courses will be accepted. Not all courses from these institutions may transfer.
If you are interested in taking classes at another university and using them as your
general requirements, consult with your academic advisor before enrolling in the course at
the other institution. You will need t o contact the other institution and request a
course number and description. The course description will be needed to receive approval
for this course.

- How do I receive my textbooks and course materials?

- How are examinations administered?
The method of examination varies from course-to-course. Some common examples of course
exams include:
- Multiple choice exams. Generally these exams are timed, meaning once a student
starts an exam they have a predetermined time to complete it (generally around 1-2 hours).
In some classes these exams may be proctored, meaning exams are proctored at a location
near you by a person whom you select and the university approves. Examples of acceptable
proctors are educators, librarians, clergy, and human resource personnel. A majority of
the criminal justice courses are not proctored exams.
- Essay/short answer exams. These exams may be timed (as defined above) or students
may have a "take home" exam where students have a longer period of time to
complete it and it is open book.
- How long will it take me to earn my degree?
The time required to obtain a degree varies based on the number of transfer credits you
receive, how much time you are able to devote to coursework, and individual financial
considerations.
- Will I have an academic advisor?
Yes, you will be assigned an advisor after you have been admitted as a matriculated
student.
- Will I have access to library resources?
Yes, all students have access to UW-Platteville's Karrmann Library. For library access
assistance once you've been accepted into the program, use the
HELP/Library Access link.
