Purpose Statement

  • Provide a formal way in which to solicit feedback about new and existing initiatives associated with online students
  • Serve as a "voice of the student" in decision-making processes and bringing forward student concerns, issues, and opinions
  • Solicit input on ideas from other students in the online programs
  • Evaluate new communication technologies to use in programs
  • Work with new and prospective students to answer questions about programs
  • Generate ideas for new projects/initiatives that should be considered by UW-Platteville as it relates to distance education

Selection Criteria

  • Each person serves a one-year term and it is renewable up to three years before the person is not eligible to serve on the board
  • The list of items that would make one eligible to be on the board are as follows:
    • Student must have completed one on-line class before term begins
    • Need to be enrolled in at least one on-line class each year that student is part of the advisory board
    • Student must be admitted to a degree-seeking program with UW-Platteville, not just enrolled as a special student
    • Student must understand that there is a monthly time commitment for meetings and "assignments" or special projects outside of meetings
    • All students interested in serving on the advisory board must submit their name, along with a 1-2 paragraph statement as to why they want to serve on the advisory board
    • If a member of the advisory board is not able to keep up with the commitments associated with the board, they may be asked to resign and be replaced with a person who can make the necessary time commitment
  • Terms would run from January-December
  • The following time frame would be used to solicit participation of new members:
    • September: Send out information to all eligible students
    • October: Ask for information back
    • Early November: Poll the current board members to see if they plan to stay on the board for the upcoming year
    • Late November: Select new board members
    • December: Have new board members attend meeting
    • January: New board member's term officially begins
