Master of Science in Project Management
Degree Requirements
The Master of Science in Project Management degree is earned upon the successful completion of 30-36 graduate credits. Knowing that many adult students can’t enroll full-time, we allow students to take up to seven years from the date of admission to complete all of the degree requirements.
The curriculum is aligned with the knowledge and process areas of the Guide to Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide), which forms the foundation needed to obtain the Project Management Professional (PMP®) designation.

What should I take and when to earn my Master of Science in Project Management degree?
To plan your curriculum sequence, use this information in conjunction with guidance from your advisor and the Credit Evaluation for Admission Form that you received with your Graduate School admission letter. The Credit Evaluation for Admission Form will indicate which foundation courses you are required to take, which courses require prerequisites, how many transfer credits you have been awarded, and whether any eligibility restrictions exist for you for any courses.

Courses
All courses are 3 credits unless otherwise noted. Instructors in some courses require proctored exams . The MSPM program consists of 30-36 credit hours earned in these areas:
Business Foundation Courses (0-9 credits)
ACCTING 7000 Managerial Accounting
If this is required for your program plan, take it after your first semester but before you begin elective courses. We recommend that you take this course alone. Can be taken whenever offered.
BUSADMIN 5530 Organizational Behavior
If required, can be taken whenever offered.
MEDIA 5010 Business Communication
If required, can be taken whenever offered. A waiver exam is available for a nominal fee.
Project Management Core Courses (15 credits)
These five courses are required of all students:
PROJMGT 7010 Project Management Techniques I
Usually the first course taken in the Project Management Program.
PROJMGT 7020 Project Management Techniques II
Second course in series taken in Project Management; usually taken the semester after PROJMGT 7010 is completed.
BUSADMIN 7540 Advanced Quality Management
Can be taken whenever offered. It is expected that you have some background (education or experience) in quality management before taking this course. If you don't have such a background, consider taking BUSADMIN 5540 first. Your advisor can assist you further.

MEDIA 7330 Organizational Communication

School of Graduate Studies Requirements
- All students must complete a minimum of 30 graduate credits.
- Students admitted prior to July 1, 2004, must complete at least 15 credits of 7000-level courses.
- Effective July 1, 2004: Any student admitted to a graduate program must earn at least 18 credits of 7000-level courses.
- Effective July 1, 2006: Any student admitted to a graduate program must earn at least 21 credits of 7000-level courses.
- No more than 12 credits may be transferred from an external program, including other UW-Platteville graduate programs. All remaining graduate credits must be earned from UW-Platteville.
- Courses in the 5000-6000 levels are open to graduate students for graduate credit, provided the courses had not previously been taken at the undergraduate level.
- Graduate students must maintain a 3.00 grade point average.
- Graduate students are allowed seven years from the date of admission into a master’s program to complete degree requirements (extensions may be granted).
- Transfer of credits requires approval by faculty in the Project Management Program and the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies.
- Transfer credits will not be officially recorded until the student has successfully completed some graduate work at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, and only courses where the student received a grade of B or higher will be accepted.
