Password Help

Students encounter many usernames and passwords for accessing online resources related to enrollment in UW-Platteville's Distance Education programs. There are three (3) primary usernames and passwords that all students must be familiar with, which are explained below, as well as more passwords that students may encounter during their studies.

Registration

The registration username and password is used each time you register online for online courses at UW-Platteville.

When is the online registration username and password issued?

Your username and password for online registration are typically generated via one of two processes. If you go to our online registration website and create a new account, your username and password will be e-mailed to you shortly afterwards. Alternatively, receipt of your UW System Application for Admission may also prompt us to generate a username and password for you. In both cases, your username and password will be e-mailed to the e-mail address you have supplied.

Forgot your registration password?

Use the “Forgot Password” service on the registration log-in page, and your password will be sent to the e-mail address you provided when you first registered.  You may also call UWLI Student Services at 1-877-895-3276 or send e-mail to info@learn.uwsa.edu for assistance.

Expiration

Your online registration password does not expire or change.

Online Courses

Your username and password for online courses is used to log into the Desire2Learn website where you interact with your online classes.

When is the username and password for online courses issued?

Just prior to the beginning of your first online class at UW-Platteville, your username and password for online courses is sent to the e-mail address you used to register, and you will continue to use it as long as you are enrolled as an online student at UW-Platteville.

Forgot your password for your online courses?

Use the “Forgot Password” service on the log-in page for your online courses, and your password will be sent to the e-mail address that we have on file for you.  You may also call UWLI Student Services at 1-877-895-3276 or send e-mail to info@learn.uwsa.edu for assistance.

Expiration

Your password for accessing your online courses does not expire or change.

UWP NetID

Your NetID is used for all online campus resources that are shared with on-campus students at UW-Platteville, including library resources, advising website, campus e-mail (optional), online software purchases and downloads, EZProxy, and more.

When is the UWP NetID and password issued?

Your UWP NetID and Password is sent to you via e-mail from viethj@uwplatt.edu during the first week of your first class.  If you have not received it, you may request that your password be e-mailed to you using the NetID Password Reset Request Form.

Forgot your UWP NetID or password?

There are two options.  For self-service, you can use the Forgotten Password Service on the password self service page, or you may request that your password be e-mailed to you using the NetID Password Reset Request Form.

Expiration

Your NetID password expires every 90 days.  You will not be notified before  or after expiration—it will just stop working.  To avoid inconvenience, please add a reminder to your calendar every 60 days or so to change your password online, which resets the 90-day expiration clock, thereby avoiding loss of access to online resources.  If your password does expire, you can use the Forgotten Password Service on the password self service page, or you may request that your password be e-mailed to you using the NetID Password Reset Request Form.

More Passwords

As a student, you will encounter a plethora of additional online accounts, each with their own password.  To learn how to recover a forgotten password for these accounts, look for a link like “Forgot your password?” where you log in.  These additional online accounts include the following:

  • University of Wisconsin System Electronic Application for Admission
  • Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • 16-digit Campus ID needed for certain library resources.  Call UWP Distance Education Student Services at (800)362-5460.
  • Turnitin writing tools—contact your instructor for more information.
  • RefWorks writing tools actually require two accounts.  First, you must log into EZProxy when accessing RefWorks from outside UW-Platteville’s campus.  Second, you must log in at the RefWorks home page using your RefWorks account, which is a separate username and password.  If you do not know the RefWorks password, use the “Forgot your log-in?” link.
  • Textbook companion websites and other online resources specified by instructors.
