What is Learning Innovations and what do they do?

Learning Innovations (LI), located in Madison, Wisconsin, provides technical support and other services for UW-Platteville students learning via online courses. Here are a few things they can assist you with:

· Gaining access to your course (e.g., passwords, login name)

· Hardware/software problems you encounter when navigating through the course

· Billing

· Registering for a course

· Ordering exams for online courses

· Nominating proctors for online courses

· Refunds

· Problems with textbooks ordered through the online bookstore

What is the role of the Distance Learning Center?

Mission/Purpose: The purpose of the Distance Learning Center is to provide centralized services to all faculty, staff, and students involved with distance education.

Goals/Outcomes:

· Serve in a liaison role between students and faculty, staff, UWP administrative offices, external agencies (i.e. DVR, Veteran’s Affairs, etc.) and UW learning Innovations to allow for centralized customer serve for students at a distance.

· Serve in a liaison role between UWP administrative/academic offices and UW Learning Innovations to ensure accurate exchange of information and adherence to appropriate policies and processes.

· Provide all alumni with relevant, timely, and important information about distance learning at UW-Platteville.

· Serve as a conduit to distance education alumni for academic, social, and professional opportunities related to distance learning and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

· Provide support and assistance to UW-Platteville administrative offices in the services provided to students. Design, adapt, and implement administrative processes to better meet the needs of students enrolled at a distance. These offices/services include, but are not limited to: admissions, advising, registration, financial aid, textbooks, cashiering, orientation, library, technical support, grade processing, and graduation.

· Provide student services that reflect or expand upon the services offered by the traditional campus administrative offices* to serve non-traditional and distance learners.

· Develop promotional materials (based on market research) for print and online distribution.

· Design a plan for the promotional mix (utilizing tracking results) that will give the broadest exposure within budget constraints.

· Design communication methods to recruit distance students and improve retention through all stages of admission, re-enrollment, and degree completion.

· Oversee course development and revision processes to ensure timely and accurate completion of courses.

· Provide initial and on-going training for faculty/staff in developing and teaching distance courses.

· Develop, implement, and review assessment/evaluation mechanisms for all areas listed above.

*These offices/services include, but are not limited to: admissions, advising, registration, financial aid, textbooks, cashiering, orientation, library, technical support, grade processing, and graduation.
