Our History

A History of Educational Excellence

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville is an accredited, public university that was founded in 1866. Today, more than 6,000 students are enrolled on campus and another 3,000 in distance learning programs.

In 1978, UW-Platteville began offering an extended, or distance, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree via correspondence coursework for Wisconsin residents. Due to the growing access of the Internet, UW-Platteville launched its first completely online program in 1999 with the Master of Science in Project Management degree. Shortly after, three more online degrees were offered:

  • Master of Science in Criminal Justice
  • Master of Science in Engineering
  • Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.

In 2006, building upon the success and reputation of its on-campus Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice degree, UW-Platteville began to also offer the undergraduate degree in criminal justice online to meet the needs of working criminal justice professionals.

In 2011, UW-Platteville began to offer Master of Science degrees in Integrated Supply Chain Management, Organizational Change Leadership, and Distance Education Leadership.
