Federal and State Financial Aid
Financial aid is a complicated topic and can be confusing to navigate. You should consult with the Financial Aid Office to learn how financial aid works, your options, and your payment responsibilities if you accept financial aid.
If you are admitted to a degree program, you may qualify for federal and/or state financial aid, including loans and grants (for undergraduate students). Eligibility for grants and/or loans is determined after you complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You can request a paper copy of the FAFSA from the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-4-FED-AID (800.433.3243) or 1.319.337.5665 (not toll-free) or by mailing a request to
Federal Student Aid Programs
P.O. Box 7002
Mount Vernon, IL 62864-0072
Because the process of determining whether you qualify for financial aid takes approximately eight weeks, you should submit all of your paperwork in a timely manner.
- File the FAFSA as soon as you complete your UW System Application for Admission. For subsequent years, file as soon as possible after January 1. The UW-Platteville priority date for filing and receiving funds is March 15. After that date, financial aid is awarded based on date received and availability of funds.
The Federal School Code for UW-Platteville is 003921. - If you want to apply for financial aid for a summer term, in addition to the FAFSA, you must complete the Summer Financial Aid Application.
- If you are offered financial aid, and you want to accept it, you must return your signed Financial Aid Award letter to the UW-Platteville Financial Aid Office.
- To hold your seat in a class, you must either make payment or return your signed Financial Aid Award letter by the semester deadlines.

Wisconsin GI Bill Information
The Wisconsin GI Bill tuition waiver benefit provides eligible veterans, their spouses and dependents a remission of up to 100% of tuition and fees for courses offered at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. This is a change due to a change in the Wisconsin GI Bill laws that became effective in Fall 2011.
The Wisconsin GI Bill tuition waiver benefit used to provide eligible veterans, their spouses, and dependents a remission of up to 100% of the standard tuition and segregated fees for courses offered on-campus at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Online tuition/fee rates are typically higher than the standard tuition rates for students on campus so students were responsible for the difference.
