Distance Learning News
Online Courses to Be Offered on Term Basis

Effective immediately, the online courses are offered on a term basis. This means that for fall 2000, the online courses will begin on September 1st or 5th, and for the spring 2001, the online courses will begin on January 16. Students may register as early as three months before the start of the course and must register no later than two weeks before the start of the course.
The online courses vary in length, with some lasting 8 weeks and others lasting 12 to 16 weeks.

The print-based business courses are not affected by this change. They will continue to be offered on an individualized basis,  with opportunities to register each month. The print-based courses allow up to one year for completion.

New Staff at the
Distance Learning Center

Katie Denner recently joined the staff at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Distance Learning Center as a clerical assistant. Katie is responsible for mailing examinations, assisting faculty with correspondence and the return of homework, completing data entry, among other duties.

Katie is a recent graduate of Southwest Wisconsin Technical College in Fennimore, Wisconsin, where she earned an Administrative Assistant-Associate Degree.

Refund Policy for
Online Courses

If you withdraw within two weeks of the start date of the course, you are eligible for a 100 percent refund of tuition. If you withdraw in the third or fourth weeks of the course, you are eligible for a 50 percent refund of tuition. There are no refunds after the fourth week of classes. In any case, refunds will not be issued for the $50 administrative fee or other nonrefundable charges.

The refund policy is currently under review and subject to change.

Print-Based Course Examination Requests

When you request an examination, please refer to the Module Examination Information in your course manual. The last page in each module lists the complete information you need to provide to receive the correct examination. Pay particular attention to the textbook edition and the course manual edition.  Do not confuse your textbook with your course manual. The course manual is written by your instructor.
