These
are a few reminders about what to do if you want to transfer credits from
another institution into your program with UW-Platteville, once you have
been admitted to one of our programs offered at a distance.
| 1. |
Be sure to talk to your
advisor to let him or her know what class you would be planning to take
and the institution from which you would be taking the class. You
may be asked to send in a syllabus, course description, or other information
to help determine the transferability of your course. This should
be done before you register for the course, so that you are sure the course
will transfer into your program. Do not assume that just because
you are taking a course with a similar name/number as UW-Platteville has
for its course that the course will transfer automatically. |
|
|
| 2. |
Be aware that you need to
receive a certain grade in a course for it to be transferable. Generally,
you need a "C" or better in an undergraduate course and a "B" or better
in a graduate course for it to be considered for transfer. Again,
check with your advisor on any specific policies within your program regarding
this issue. |
|
|
| 3. |
There are also limits as
to the amount of credits that can transfer into your program. When
speaking with your advisor about transfer credits, be sure to inquire about
those limits. |
|
|
| 4. |
When you have completed
your course, you need to request that an official transcript (from the
institution where you took the class) be sent directly to the Distance
Learning Center at UW-Platteville. It is best to check with our office
a couple weeks after you have requested the transcript to ensure that we
received it. Remember, you are the only one that can request
that an official transcript be sent to our office. |
|
|
| 5. |
When we receive the transcript,
we will contact your advisor, update your file, and have the transfer credits
added to your transcript by the Registrar's Office. |
By following this process,
we will be able to maintain an up-to-date record of your academic progress,
and you will have no surprises about what courses transferred from other
institutions to count toward your degree.
