Founded
in summer 2001 and supported by a U.S. Department of Education grant, UW-Platteville's
International Business Resource Center (IBRC) has a multi-pronged mission.
IBRC exists to develop awareness and understanding of best practices and
cultural issues as they relate to international business. This mission
includes faculty development, student and faculty study abroad programs,
faculty academic exchanges, and outreach to business enterprise in UW-Platteville's
sphere of influence. Providing assistance to firms that want to move
into or expand their efforts in export marketing is a key function of the
Center. This key factor will interest distance education students
the most, because many readers of PLEXUS are enrolled in courses leading
to undergraduate and graduate degrees in business or related fields.
IBRC
is staffed and equipped to provide consulting services especially tailored
for the smaller firm and for those new to export marketing. The Center
also offers occasional seminars and workshops at nominal cost, geared toward
assisting firms needing such help. In addition, the Center maintains
a resource listing of schools, both domestic and international, that offer
seminar and academic study opportunities for both full-time and part-time
students.
As
business globalization continues, the need for a solid understanding of
international business and cultural issues has never been more important.
If your work environment or personal interests encompass these issues,
be sure to contact UW-Platteville's IBRC and ask for their help.
