Students
who plan to enroll in any course outside UW-Platteville should always discuss
their options with their advisor in advance of enrolling in the course
to make certain the course will apply to their degree program at UW-Platteville.
From an advisor's standpoint, I keep documentation in the student's file
as evidence that pre-approval has been obtained through proper channels.
I encourage students to keep documentation at home.
If
you earned credits before you were admitted to UW-Platteville,
you were notified if those credits transferred into UW-Platteville at the
time of your admission. The guidelines for how Wisconsin technical school credits transfer into the
UW-Platteville Business Administration program are written down in articulation
(transfer) agreements. Technical school transfer agreements have been changing more
frequently in recent years. These transfer agreements are useful to students
now enrolled in other schools who plan to enroll with UW-Platteville in
the future. UW-Platteville personnel rely on these agreements
to decide whether and how to apply your previously earned credit to the
current UW-Platteville degree requirements. You may view the current technical school
articulation or transfer agreements by visiting the UW-Platteville Registrar's
web site at http://www.uwplatt.edu/registrar/agreements/index.html.
The
Distance Learning Center is unable to monitor hundreds of student files
with technical school transcripts that were evaluated under an older agreement,
which was once the prevailing standard in effect at the time of your admission.
If you were admitted in 1995, the articulation agreement could have changed
several times up to the present, and your prior credit that did not transfer
at your admission point might now be viewed as acceptable.
I encourage
you to screen your own transcripts in
comparison with current transfer agreements to determine if previously
earned credit could now be used to satisfy any of your
remaining requirements. Sound policy on academic records prevents
us from photocopying your transcripts from other schools, so if you need
details on previous course numbers and titles, you need to obtain them
from the school's registrar.
When
interpreting Wisconsin technical school transfer agreements, pay attention to several details.
First, make certain you are viewing information that pertains to UW-Platteville
general education requirements or the Business Administration major requirements.
Each UW-Platteville academic department has the right to approve or deny
course equivalency for their respective programs. For example, Industrial
Technology might accept a course as equivalent, whereas Business Administration
might not approve it.
Be
sure to watch for date details also. A course might
be treated as an equivalent only if you completed it after a certain date
(such as "retroactive until Spring 2000").
It
is your responsibility to stay informed about procedures and policy that
impact your educational planning.
