In our continuing efforts to serve our
distance students in the most efficient, effective, and convenient way possible, two
new student services will be provided in the upcoming year. Currently, we are piloting
a new online registration system with the undergraduate business program. This new
system will allow greater flexibility and provide additional information to students,
staff, and advisors during the registration process. All current students in the
business program should have received a letter about this new registration process.
If you did not receive a letter, please call the Distance Learning Center
(1-800-362-5460 or email disted@uwplatt.edu
to get this information. Once registration is closed for the Spring 2004 semester,
we will evaluate how the process worked. Our plan is to have the newly enhanced
registration feature available for all online students for Fall 2004 registration.
Another new feature that will be unveiled
during next semester is an online orientation program. The purpose of this program is
to help students become acclimated to online education and provide support and information
for the various issues that students encounter when studying at a distance. The program
will be set up in two formats to allow for the maximum benefits and flexibility for the
students.
A set of orientation materials will be
placed on the web site for students to access at your convenience. The currently planned
topics for this web site are:
 |
Welcome and Introductions
|
 |
Staying Motivated When Studying at a Distance
|
 |
How To Be a Successful Online Learner
|
 |
Mastering the Technology
|
 |
Maneuvering Through the Administrative Maze
|
We will also be offering
a web conference (available in a synchronous format) to review some of the items associated
with the orientation site and to answer individual questions that students may have about
the programs. This will also give students an opportunity to meet other new students in
the programs and begin to form those virtual connections.
Be watching for the new online orientation
program in February 2004!
