FINANCIAL
AID DEADLINE FOR STUDENTS TAKING ONLINE COURSES
Students
who wish to use the financial aid payment option for their 2004 spring
online courses need to be aware that the deadline to register for courses
using this option is DECEMBER 19, 2003. This means you need to have submitted
all of your financial aid paperwork and be fully admitted to a UWP degree
program by that date. Students choosing to register after that date will
not have access to the financial aid payment option.
MAY
AND AUGUST GRADUATES: APPLY NOW!
Undergraduate
Students: If you are planning to be a May 2004 or August 2004 graduate,
you should have submitted your "Intent to Graduate" card, along with the
$25 graduation fee, to the Distance Learning Center. If you are planning
to graduate but have not yet submitted your card and fee, please contact
Susan Mann at the Distance Learning Center,
or your advisor, Patty
Zugenbuehler, to discuss your status.
Final
graduation checks are done when these cards are submitted, so it is best
to do this early! Also, once you have submitted the card and paid your
fee, your name is placed on the list to be sent graduation information.
In the spring, the Registrar's Office will send you complete details on
the graduation ceremony, including how to order your tickets and your cap/gown.
Graduate
Students: If you are planning to be a May 2004 or August 2004 graduate,
prior to the start of your last semester before graduation, you must notify
your advisor of your intent to graduate, so the advisor can request a form
called "File for Master's Degree" from the Distance Learning Center.
Before
the end of the 10th day of classes during your final semester, you must
return the completed form to the Distance Learning Center, along with the
$25 graduation fee (make checks payable to UW-Platteville). If you are
planning to graduate but have not contacted your advisor, please contact
him or her to discuss your status. Completion of this form will start the
process toward graduation and place your name on a list to be sent graduation
information. In the spring, the Registrar's Office will send you complete
details on the graduation ceremony, including information regarding ordering
of tickets and your cap and gown.
Please
contact the Distance Learning Center if you have any questions.
EVALUATION
PROCESS GOES ONLINE
The Distance Learning Center
conducts periodic evaluations of various aspects of distance learning.
The areas evaluated include such things as faculty/instruction, advising,
and student services. We use the evaluations to gather information so that
we improve services. It is important that we have the student's perspective
on the quality of our programs and services, so we have developed surveys
on these issues that we have, in the past, sent to students through the
mail.
We are pleased to announce
that this fall we will be piloting this evaluation process online. We will
begin with a student services survey that will be sent to all students
in October. Online evaluations for advising and instruction will follow.
Please watch for these evaluation forms and plan to participate in the
evaluation process.
NEW
PROJECT MANAGEMENT COURSE TO BE OFFERED
The M.S. in Project Management
program will be offering a new course, PM 7030 Project Risk Management,
for Spring 2004. The course is designed to build on the foundations of
the PM 7010 and PM 7020 courses and provide comprehensive
instruction in risk management theory and application. Completion of PM
7010 and PM 7020 are prerequisites for the course.
UPDATE ON
PROJECT MANAGEMENT ACCREDITATION
Progress continues on UWP's
Self-Study Report to the Global Accreditation Center for Project Management.
The purpose of the report is to attain accreditation by the Program Management
Institute (PMI) of UWP's Master of Science in Project Management program. The
Global Accreditation Center is committed to the attainment and maintenance of
excellence in education programs related to the field of project management.
We are quite confident that the Global Accreditation Center will find that our
education program meets or exceeds the high standards they have for the field.
Once our Self-Study Report is submitted, a team from the Center will make a
campus visit for their overall assessment and evaluation of our program.
NEW EMPHASIS
FOR BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION STUDENTS
The Business and Accounting Department
is now offering a new emphasis in the Business Administration major. The International
Business emphasis may be earned upon completion of BSAD 3720 International Marketing
(3 cr); ECON 3630 Comparative Economic Systems (3 cr); SPCH 2300 Intercultural
Communication (3 cr) or POSC 3030 International Relations (3 cr); and a 12-credit
study abroad experience with 6 credits of pre-approved business courses from either
the Spanish-American Institute in Seville, Spain; American University in Rome, Italy;
or St. Maryıs College in London, England.
Only BSAD 3720 is offered at a distance
from UW-Platteville. Transfer credits and credits earned through Portfolio Development
may apply to the emphasis. Consult with the department chair about pre-approved
business courses.
MATH REQUIREMENTS
CHANGE FOR UNDERGRAD BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION STUDENTS
Last spring, the Department of Mathematics
decided that MATH 1000 Intermediate Algebra would no longer count as college level credit
for UWP students. At the same time, MATH 1000 was renumbered MATH 15 and is now considered
a remedial course. Consequently, MATH 1000 will no longer be offered to students pursuing
a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at a distance.
Distance students should be aware that MATH
1730 (formerly MATH 2330) Mathematics of Finance satisfies the general education math
requirement of 3 credits of college-level mathematics courses numbered MATH 1630 or higher.
The prerequisites for MATH 1730, which are MATH 15 or MATH 1530 College Algebra, will be
waived for distance students.

have been developed during the past several months. Be sure to stay informed about
current and future transfer agreements by accessing this information on the
distance education web site and clicking
