In the July
issue of PLEXUS, I introduced you to the newly formed alumni committee.
Since that time, the alumni committee has been very busy and made extensive
progress on a number of initiatives to recognize alumni from our programs
that are offered at a distance. Some of these accomplishments include:
 |
Getting
changes made to alumni association award categories to allow non-traditional
students to be eligible for the awards.
|
 |
Developing
alumni displays to highlight the success of our distance alumni on our
campus and in the community.
|
 |
Planning
for the development of a community building area for alumni on our web
site (be watching for this to be unveiled in April).
|
 |
Making
information about distance education available to alumni who came back
to campus for the homecoming festivities in October.
|
 |
Providing
information about distance education opportunities at alumni events that
are held throughout the United States.
|
 |
Incorporating
articles about distance education into each issue of the "Alumni Today"
publication that is distributed to all alumni from UW-Platteville. (SPECIAL
NOTE: Distance education is featured on the cover and an in-depth article
in the current "Alumni Today.")
|
 |
Developing
ideas for new components to be added to the alumni web site that pertain
to distance education.
|
As
we continue to make progress toward serving the needs of the alumni from
the distance programs, we need your assistance. Currently we are exploring
the concept of forming a special alumni group to represent the area of
distance education. This could take two different formats: (1) forming an
informal group of alumni that assists the alumni committee in developing
programs and services that will serve distance alumni or (2) forming a
formal alumni chapter that would elect a governing board and work with
the parent UWP alumni association board.
I would like to get your
feedback as to which of the options
listed above interest you. Also, please let me know if you would be willing
to work on getting either of the groups established and serving as a representative.
I would love to get feedback from both alumni and current students (i.e.,
future alumni) as to your preference for alumni representation.
***
As always,let us know what
is happening in your life, so we can share your accomplishments with other
alumni, faculty, staff, and current students. You can complete the form
on this page or simply e-mail your updates to Dawn
Drake. You are truly an inspiration to everyone!
