CRIMINAL JUSTICE MAJOR REQUIREMENTS

CRIMINAL JUSTICE MAJOR REQUIREMENTS

To obtain a criminal justice major, students must earn a Minimum of 36 credits (12 courses) as outlined below:

CORE REQUIREMENTS - 15 credits

To fulfill the Core requirements, students must take the following courses:

CJ 1130 Introduction to Criminal Justice.......3 cr.
CJ 2130 The Police Function....................3 cr.
CJ 2230 Correctional Philosophy................3 cr.
CJ 4030 Criminal Law...........................3 cr.
CJ 4930 Criminal Justice Seminar...............3 cr.

TOTAL 15 credits

RESEARCH METHODS REQUIREMENTS -3 credits

To fulfill the Research Methods requirement, students should take the following course:

CJ 3900 Research Methods in Criminal Justice..3 cr.

TOTAL 3 cr.

This course has a prerequisite of CJ 2130 and 2230 with a "C" or higher, MATH 1830 (Elementary Statistics), and junior standing or consent of the instructor.

THEORY REQUIREMENT 3 credits

To fulfill the Theory requirement, students should take the following:

CJ 3630 Juvenile Justice...................3 cr.

TOTAL 3 cr.

ELECTIVES REQUIREMENTS - 15 credits

To fulfill the Electives requirements, students must take the following courses:

2CJ 3130 Criminal Investigation..............3 cr.
2CJ 3330 Police Administration...............3 cr.
2CJ 4130 Police Community Relations..........3 cr.
3CJ 4230 Community-Based Corrections.........3 cr.
4CJ 4330 Criminal Procedures and Evidence....3 cr.

TOTAL 15 cr.

2CJ 3130, 3330, AND 4130 have a prerequisite of CJ 2130, with a "C" or better and junior standing or consent of the instructor.

3CJ 4230 has a prerequisite of CJ 2230, with a "C" or better and junior standing or consent of the instructor.

4CJ 4330 has a prerequisite of CJ 4030, with a "C" or better and junior standing or consent of the instructor.
