Not all courses are available from UW-Platteville at a distance.
Those not available from UW-Platteville are generally available
through other distance learning programs. Your academic advisor
will help you find a program that offers the courses you need.
Many general education courses are offered from the
UW
Colleges and
UW
Independent Learning.

Liberal Arts Requirements (36 credits total)
1. HUMANITIES, FINE ARTS, and HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE -
12 credits
You must take at least three credits in each of the three areas
listed below. The remaining three credits must be a second course
from one of the disciplines chosen for the first course in Fine
Arts or Humanities or any course in Historical Perspective.
- Fine Arts (Art, Music, or Theater) - 3 cr.
Music 1590, Music Appreciation (3 cr.), is available at a
distance from UW-Platteville and partially fulfills the
humanities and fine arts requirement.
- Humanities (Literature, Foreign Language, Philosophy, or
Women's Studies) - 3 cr.
- Historical Perspective (History) - 3 cr.
- Your 4th course must be from the same academic
discipline as one of the three previous courses you take,
depending on your course selection. For example, if you took
a course in English literature for the Humanities
requirement, you could take another literature course as
your 4th course, but a course in Philosophy would
not qualify since it wouldn't match the same discipline as
your prior course for the humanities requirement.
2. SOCIAL SCIENCES - 9 credits
You must take at least three credits in each of two disciplines
including Economics, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology,
Cultural Geography, Women's Studies, and Criminal Justice. The
remaining three credits must be a second course in one of the
disciplines chosen. ECON 2130 (3 cr.) and ECON 2230 (3 cr.) are
available at a distance from UW-Platteville and fulfill six
credits in the Social Sciences requirement -- both of these
courses are required for the degree.
