Graduation Procedures for Undergraduate Students

  1. Your advisor, in consultation with the Distance Learning Center (DLC) and the UW-Platteville Registrar's Office, will work with you to set up the courses you will need to take during your final term of enrollment with us. Your advisor will request a preliminary graduation check from the DLC to confirm that you have met all degree requirements for resident credits, upper-division, major requirements, etc. The Registrar's Office will complete the final review and confirmation of graduation requirements. You should contact your advisor to talk about this at least three months before your anticipated graduation date so all paperwork can be processed on a timely basis.

  2. After you have talked with your advisor about your graduation plans, you will be mailed an "Intent to Graduate" card, along with a billing statement for the $25 graduation fee. You will need to submit the graduation fee along with your completed "Intent to Graduate" card. You should return this information to the DLC promptly, even if your anticipated graduation date is several months away.

  3. Upon receipt of the "Intent to Graduate" card and graduation fee, the DLC will inform the Registrar's Office that you are a candidate for graduation and will indicate your anticipated graduation date (May, August, or December).

  4. About two months before your anticipated graduation date, you will be mailed a packet containing specific graduation information (ordering cap and gown, ticket information, etc.). You may participate in graduation ceremonies on the UW-Platteville campus in May or December. (August graduates may participate in either ceremony.)

  5. Your actual diploma is not given out at graduation--these are ordered by the Registrar's Office after graduation is confirmed (providing all necessary financial obligations have been met). About eight weeks after your official degree has been posted by the Registrar's Office, you be mailed your diploma along with a copy of your final transcript. If for some reason you are unable to finish all degree requirements by your anticipated graduation date (as listed on your "Intent to Graduate" card), you will be moved to the next appropriate graduation date.

If you have any questions regarding graduation, please contact the Distance Learning Center at 1-800-362-5460, or 608-342-1468.
