  2. You must have the high school course distribution required by University of Wisconsin-Platteville at the time of graduation, or have the appropriate scores on the GED.
  3. You must have a high school rank required at time of graduation.

If you do not meet the traditional admission requirements at the time of your graduation from high school, you may be considered for admission on an individual basis.

TRANSFER AND RE-ENTRANT STUDENTS

To apply for admission, you must have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.00, plus good standing at the university most recently attended. If your GPA is less than 2.00, you will be considered for admission if more than five years have elapsed since you last attended school. You must petition in writing for an exception to the required five-year lapse of time. If you were on probation at the last institution that you attended, five years must have elapsed since the probationary status.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

In addition to meeting the basic admission requirements, international students must do the following:

  1. Demonstrate proficiency in English (500 minimum on Test of English as a Foreign Language [TOEFL]). If you have taken the TOEFL, you must provide official evidence, indicating the date on which you took the examination and your score. If you have earned grades of B or higher in two semesters (or equivalent) of college-level English (excluding English as a Second Language [ESL] courses), you may be excused from taking the TOEFL. If you transfer from a college or university in the United States, you may be excused from taking the TOEFL if you have earned grades of B or higher in two semesters of non-ESL college-level English courses from such institutions.
  2. Complete the sequence of preparatory studies required for university admission in your country of origin.
  3. Request that each secondary institution, college, or university that you have attended mail your academic records or transcripts directly to the UW-Platteville Distance Learning Center. Transcripts must include the dates of attendance, level of study, list of subjects, studies and marks (grades) obtained, rank in class when possible, and the grading system used. Reports of examinations taken and a final average should be included. Transcripts must be in English.
  4. Pay all tuition and fees in full at the time of enrollment. Payment must be made in full in U.S. dollars.

As an international student, you also must:

  1. If taking classes with proctored exams, arrange to find an examination proctor in your location and have him or her approved by UW-Platteville officials. The proctor must be fluent in English and must be (a) a professor or dean at a university or testing center, or an official designated by a dean or professor, (b) an American embassy information/education official, or (c) a U.S. military base information/education official. You will be asked to show the proctor a photo ID each time that you take an examination.
  2. Have access to the Internet with e-mail capabilities.
  3. Communicate with the university via fax, e-mail, or air mail. Examinations must be sent and returned via air mail. Questions and general communication should be by fax or e-mail, and assignments may be sent via fax, air mail, or as e-mail attachments. You will be responsible for air mail costs associated with mailing course assignments.
  4. Purchase or obtain required textbooks.

ADMISSION PROCEDURES

MATRICULATED (DEGREE-SEEKING) STUDENT

A matriculated student is an individual who intends to earn a degree from the institution at which he or she is taking course work. A matriculated student must apply and be accepted into the University of Wisconsin-Platteville before he or she may register for courses. Matriculated students are assigned to work with an academic advisor.

If you fit into the matriculated student classification, complete and submit the application form electronically at http://www.apply.wisconsin.edu. On the electronic application, select "Criminal Justice Online" for your field of study.

Contact your high school(s) of attendance, and all schools attended since high school and have them forward transcripts directly to the UW-Platteville Distance Learning Center (have them sent to the address above). Your high school transcript must show your graduation date and high school rank at the time of graduation. Transcripts must come directly to the UW-Platteville Distance Learning Center from the issuing institution.

If you received a GED certificate, contact the Department of Public Instruction in the state where the GED was granted and ask the office to forward an official copy of your scores to the UW-Platteville Distance Learning Center. In Wisconsin, this address is:

Department of Public Instruction
125 South Webster Street
PO Box 7841
Madison, WI 53707-7841
Phone (800) 441-4563 or (608) 266-3390

If the school where you took your GED test is a licensed state office, it may forward an official copy of your scores to the UW-Platteville Distance Learning Center.

The Distance Learning Center will mail your transcript evaluation results approximately four weeks after it has received all required transcripts. The evaluation will tell you which courses transfer to UW-Platteville and what course work you need to complete to receive the Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. You may want to check with the Distance Learning Center about two weeks after you have requested transcripts to make sure all of your transcripts have been received.

Along with the transcript evaluation results, you will receive information on how to be assigned to an academic advisor. Your advisor will help you determine in which courses you should register, your course delivery format (print or online), and course sequencing.
