ELECTIVES AND ACCOUNTING AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE MINOR REQUIREMENTS

ELECTIVES

Because 120 credits are required to complete the degree, you will need an additional variable number of elective credit hours beyond the general education and major requirements. These courses may be in any area of your choosing--business administration or otherwise.

ACCOUNTING MINOR REQUIREMENTS

The elective credit area can be used to earn a minor. A 24-credit optional accounting minor is available. The following courses are required for the accounting minor. UW-Platteville offers most of the courses needed to complete the accounting minor at a distance.

ACCT 2010 Financial Accounting 3 cr.
ACCT 2020 Management Accounting 3 cr.
ACCT 3010 Intermediate Accounting I 3 cr.
*ACCT 3040 Federal Income Tax 3 cr.
ACCT 3230 Cost Accounting 3 cr.

Three elective accounting courses are required. UW-Platteville offers the following: 

ACCT 3020 Intermediate Accounting II 3 cr.
ACCT 3050 Advanced Accounting I 3 cr.
ACCT 3530 Budgets and Budgetary Control 3 cr.
*UW-Platteville does not offer this course at a distance.
If you have a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an accounting minor, you may be eligible to take the Certified Public Accountant examination for the State of Wisconsin. Additional course work is required. Contact the Department of Regulation and Licensing, State of Wisconsin, Accounting Examining Board, 1400 E. Washington Avenue, Madison, WI 53708, for current requirements. Alternatively, you may request the requirements by e-mail at dorl@mail.state.wi.us.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE MINOR REQUIREMENTS

An optional 24-credit criminal justice minor is available. UW-Platteville offers the following.

Four core courses (12 credits) are required for the criminal justice minor:

CJ 1130 Introduction to Criminal Justice 3 cr.
CJ 2130 The Police Function 3 cr.
CJ 2230 Correctional Philosophy 3 cr.
CJ 4030 Criminal Law 3 cr.

Four criminal justice elective courses (12 credits) are required for the criminal justice minor.

CJ 3130 Criminal Investigation 3 cr.
CJ 3630 Juvenile Justice 3 cr.
CJ 3900 Research Methods in Criminal Justice 3 cr.
CJ 3330 Police Administration 3 cr.
CJ 4130 Police-Community Relations 3 cr.
CJ 4230 Community-Based Corrections 3 cr.
CJ 4330 Criminal Procedure and Evidence 3 cr.
